Magic Monk's Cherry Blossom adventures in Yeouido (여의도), Seoul, South Korea 2017

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

In 2017 I decided to travel to South Korea for a holiday. In this post I will focus on the beautiful cherry blossom pictures I took in Yeouido, Seoul. To get here you can simply travel on the subway and stop at the Yeouido station (on both line 5 and line 9).

Every year the cherry blossom dates are different, but in 2017 the first time I saw cherry blossom was on April 6th at Yeouido. This was the first cherry blossom tree I had ever seen, and it was also the most beautiful tree I'd ever seen. This picture was taken at the south western end of Yeouido park (37.523177, 126.917183). Click the coordinates to see the exact location in Google Maps.

I was very lucky that I was in Seoul on this date. When I came back to Yeouido 9 days later, this exact same cherry blossom tree has turned green. It doesn't last very long, you have to time your trip well to see them.

After leaving Yeouido park, I went onto the main road outside of the KBS building (famous Korea TV channel). I discovered that this street was filled with cherry blossoms. It was hard to leave without taking many pictures and admiring the scenery. Exact location (37.524188, 126.915375).

Some pictures of the KBS building behind the cherry blossom trees:

I kept walking along this road and found a spring flower festival, where there were many stands and interesting displays. The road was completely blocked off from cars for people to enjoy the festival. There were also more cherry blossoms here. Exactly location: (37.527481, 126.913268).

There are lots of interesting displays, including models from movies, retro cafes, and a book bus.

This is a book bus where the inside of a bus is full of books and some seats for you to sit down and read. What a great idea.

After walking for a while you will arrive at the Hangang Park, where there are more cherry blossoms next to the river. You can also see lots of nice bridges and other types of flowers (e.g. Forsythia 개나리).

Foothpath with cherry blossoms on both sides.

This is a picture of Forsythia 개나리, a famous yellow spring time flower in Korea.

This concludes my day at the Yeouido. It was a very long walk (the island looks a lot bigger than it does on the map), I'd suggest planning the trip out on google maps so you know what you're in for. I did see a bicycle hire station in front of the KBS building at this location (37.524744, 126.918514). See you again soon for more travel adventures :)
