Hostel Review: La Empanada of Mazunte, Oaxaca, Mexico and the Beautiful New Friends I Made
Hostel la Empanada is a good price, great location
and has many amenities such as
a pool table,
outdoor gardens with many
tranquil sitting places,
a spacious kitchen for guests as well as the restaurant
The Empanada.
On the down side I found the WiFi to be pitiful.
Often I was given excuses as to why it did not work
but I learned I could walk to the restaurant across
the street and easily pick up a WiFi
but I would have to buy something to use it.
After about 24 hours of the inconsistent Wifi
I gave up on writing blogs altogether.
The first night I stayed in the dorm all alone.
It was not beautiful and the adjacent bathroom was not clean.
The second night I stayed in a private room that overlooks the main street.
This room was very nice and clean.
I really liked that the small room.
It was the perfect size
to be really cozy without feeling crowded.
Then I was moved down the road and up a
steep, dirt and rocky road.
It was the end of the path.
In my mind, I was being led to a room somewhere
but once my escort and I reached the house at the top of the hill
it quickly became clear that I am to have
an entire house with a nice sized covered porch
all to myself...for 3 nights!
The only catch is there is no WiFi.
That’s not my favorite situation but, “okay”
the Universe has brought me to this point for some reason so,
I’m just gonna flow with it.
Quickly, I made myself at home.
I pulled down one of the ugly hammocks on the deck
and replaced it with my own awesome hammock for two.
Yeah!
A hammock to sit and sleep in along with great weather for it.
At my community in Texas, the Garden of Eden @gardenofeden,
for the entire three years I lived there I happily slept in a hammock.
This is a perfect situation to eat the
psychedelic mushrooms I brought with me from
Huautla de Jimenez.
Talk about manifestation, I totally visualized
and put into intention an isolated, private place
to take a little mushroom journey.
Like magic, here I am.
For the next couple days I pretty
much hang out in my hammock,
take walks to the beach,
listen to my favorite music,
The Bhakti House Band
and
make jewelry.
Norma is scheduled to return to Mazunte on my last night.
She is a beautiful soul who originally met me through the
Facebook group, Mochileros en Mexico
and quickly became one of my many loyal Followers.
At the beginning of this journey I posted my map of intentions
for my magical city tour which included Mazunte.
Through Messenger we began to talk about me visiting her home.
At some point my plans changed to my arrival during a time
when Norma was to be out of town.
This big hearted woman contacted her friends with
a hostel, The Empanada,
and made arrangements for me to stay there.
That's Rafa in the back, the owner.
On my last night at the hostel Norma returned to
Mazunte from her journey so I finally got to meet my angel.
One of her friends, Regina and I met at The Empanada restaurant
and made an instant connection.
As a result she invited me into her home for
a night but when we met to go to her home
we decided I must stay 2 nights.
It seems that my photos from my visit with her have disappeared.
She has an adorable home high up in the hills with a
breathtaking view of the sea and the jungle in between.
On to San Jose de Allende in my next blog,
the home of
5 wild varieties of psychedelic mushrooms.
