in #travel6 years ago

Mount Sinai is a mountain in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt that is a possible location of the biblical Mount Sinai, which is considered a holy site by the Abrahamic religions. Mount Sinai is mentioned many times in the Book of Exodus and other books of the Bible, and the Quran. According to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic tradition, the biblical Mount Sinai was the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

For nature lovers Mount Sinai is an easy climb into a total different world.

For the animal lover, you may meet there this lovely street dogs that have a passion for following climber to the top every night and climbing down with them at sunrise =)

There are two routes to choose from, so choose carefully especially if climbing at night.

We personally used the Camel Path to climb up. A gentler, winding, wide path that snakes its way up to the summit that can be completed by the average traveler. It is style very challenging though. The climb is around 8km long and in February temperature were around -5°C. Believe me in a desert environment this is something.

We started climbing at 1Am to be able to reach summit before sunrise.
It was a long and cold night, where we challenged ourselves.

We reached the top at 4:30 AM, waited in silence in the middle of people from all over the world in a small coffee inside the mount at the summit.

Before making our way down, using the Steps of Penitence. This aptly named steep path has been quite literally carved out of the rock by monks, and with 3750 steps to climb is the shorter but more challenging of the two.

Perfect for the way down even if our legs hated us a lot at that time =D
