Thailand is becoming more and more expensive
Financial experts do not have good news for expats living in Thailand and foreign tourists. They said that the baht could even gain strength after a smooth election on March 24. The current growth data will highlight an important pillar of its recent strength and could help keep the baht in pole position, at least in the first quarter of the year.
Unfortunately, due to the artificially strong Thai baht, holidays in Thailand are becoming more and more expensive. At the moment there are not even 36.- Baht in many places for one Euro, which is not really optimal for tourists. In the last six months alone, the euro has deteriorated by 8% against the baht, because in July there was still 39th - baht for the €. Compared to the price of 5 years ago, when the price was almost 45 baht, the European tourist to Thailand even 20% of its purchasing power have been lost.
In addition there is a not insignificant rate of inflation, which can be felt everywhere in Thailand. The price development of many hotels is sometimes difficult to understand and the cost of accommodation is now almost at European level.
Fifteen years ago, when the price was still at 1:55, a beer at the bar had cost about 55 baht, or about 1 euro per beer. That was very pleasing for fans of the cooled-in hop cocktail.
Today, the beer costs about twice and with the current exchange rate, we come to around 3.10 €, which slightly exceeds the price at home because of the small vials, and many now much less enjoyment.
