Island of Hawaii / Kauai PART #2

In the previous post I went up something on the island of Kauai and good guys here I bring you the second part

RIVERS

Kauai has the only navigable rivers in Hawaii.

The Walilea River, about 20 miles, is one of the most popular.

If you are an active person, you can paddle surf or rent a kayak or canoe

RAINBOW

Thanks to the presence of constant rain and sun, rainbows are generated almost every day.

It is easy to see double rainbows and even triple ones.

TO SURF

Kauai is an ideal place to surf. I can not give much information because I did not surf ... Yes, I know, it's almost a crime !! LOL

I wanted to try it when I lived in San Diego, but time passed and I never tried it, then I told myself I would do it in Bali, but I focused on other things and I never tried it and now in Hawaii the truth is that time has not been the ideal to learn ... will have to be in my next destination.

NUDISM

By law it is not allowed to practice nudism on the beaches of Hawaii, but there are some beaches where people do practice nudism.

The best known is perhaps Secret Beach, but the truth is that I found many beaches completely deserted (usually beaches with complicated access) where I do not think there is any problem in doing nudism.

Out of respect for others, have your swimsuit nearby and if someone shows up, then get dressed

CORAL

Do not walk on coral reefs and of course, do not start it.

It's a kind of very slow growth and you have to protect it

NATIVE ANIMALS

90% of the animals and plants native to the Hawaiian Islands can not be found anywhere else in the world.

These usually inhabit the less developed areas of the islands.

I have no idea if this bird is autochthonous or not, but I like it a lot and it's very easy to see it on the island.

ROOSTERS

You will find roosters and chickens literally everywhere; in the street, on the beach, in the mountains, on the road ... I got to find a chick in the supermarket!

Every morning I woke up with the singing of these animals, but the most curious is that they sing all day! LOL

Some locals say that this large number of roosters and chickens is due to Hurricane Iniki that hit the island in 1992, released him.

Although others believe it is due to the absence of predators that eat them and the presence of tourists who do not stop feeding them

Public toilets
In some areas it is difficult to find public toilets. Many establishments and restaurants do not offer this service and even in areas with groupings of stores and restaurants like Princeville center, there is no public bathroom. You have to move a few streets to find one.

Houses
The law does not allow building houses higher than palm trees and in turn in coastal areas, houses must be built on pillars to protect them from flooding.

WiFi connection
The airport of Kauai does not have an Internet connection (neither free nor paying) and in many restaurants and cafeterias that service is not offered either. I have spent most of the trip unconnected. I did not even bother asking if there was a connection.

It has been a good way to disconnect as much as possible.

Shaka
It is the way used to say hello. In fact it can mean many things; hello, thank you, well, see you later, how's it going ?, take care, see you, "chill out", etc.

One of the theories (there are several) says that the origin of the sign comes from a Hawaiian fisherman (Hamana), who lost the three middle fingers of the right hand in an accident. Consequently he had to leave his profession and started working in a mill as a security guard.

The children, who wanted to jump on the train. they adopted the sign of Shaka (mocking Hamana's lack of fingers) to communicate with each other. thus they used the sign to warn when the guard was not looking.

Later, during the decade of the 60s, surfers from Hawaii, adopted this gesture to greet each other.

Hawaiian alphabet

It only contains 12 letters; the 5 vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and 7 consonants (H, K, L, M, N, P, W). It is very common to use diphthongs (combination of two pronounced vowels together creating a vocal sound).
