Famous "Minsk gate"

What begins Minsk? Yes, of course, like any other city, Minsk, too, starts from the station, you say. And you will be absolutely right. The first place is a man, arriving in another town, of course, is the station, whether the railway or Bus station.

Leaving the station of the city of Minsk, no matter you're on the train or bus (since the main entrances of these stations are at station square), tourists and visitors first will see a pair of identical, majestic towers, which is simply not possible not to notice.

This architectural structure is not just one of the attractions of the Republic of Belarus, it is a calling card, a symbol of the capital, which is decorated with many Souvenirs: magnets, postcards, etc. the twin Towers were built in 1953, the Structure was designed by Leningrad architect Boris Rubanenko and are the finishing touch of the previously constructed five-story apartment buildings.

Tallest building is 11 floors symmetrically located at the corners of a five-story residential home, which reinforces the perception of the gate leading into the city. For the location of towers, this complex is called the "Gate of Minsk". By the way thanks to them the Minsk stations differ significantly from the other, no conspicuous stations of the Republic, but that's not surprising because it's still the capital.

After the war, Minsk, the architects began to restore the capital of Belarus from the ashes. Station square was conceived by architects, not only as the front gate destroyed during the hostilities of the capital, it was intended to be the gates of the Soviet Union. And that was the emergence of ideas about the creation of two magnificent twin towers, made in the form of defensive towers that correspond to the style of the castles of the ancient Minsk.

On the walls of buildings were depicted floral and bison. Above, on tiers "is" concrete sculptures of workers, peasants and red army soldiers. But over time the attachment, which hold the concrete figures have begun to crumble and pose a threat to passers-by. It was decided to remove the sculptures from the tiers, after which part of them was used for monuments in parks and squares of small towns of Belarus.

In 2004, instead of heavy concrete previously placed on the eaves of sculptures, was exhibited new figures: peasant, engineer and partisan. Only this time, took into account all the previous mistakes, and figures were made of a material of silumin.

In one of the Stalinist towers set a tremendous watch with a diameter of three and a half meters, and minute hand, the length of which slightly more than half a meter. This watch has more than a century. Created in Germany, they were captured by the Germans in world war II and a trophy went to Belarus. In our time, the clock mechanism in the clock was replaced with mechanics on electronics for a more convenient use. The other tower is decorated with the coat of arms of the Byelorussian SSR.
