Follow me to the capital city of Zanzibar—historic stone town, Tanzania 跟我去桑给巴尔首府石头城

Zanzibar is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever visited, and stone town is one of the most special cities in Africa, which is listed on world heritage site.

Zanzibar belongs to Tanzania officially, but it has own culture and religion. In fact, Zanzibar has been independent for long time, when you arrive Zanzibar and they even put a stamp on your passport.

The stone town in Zanzibar is a blend of African traditional culture, islamic culture and Indian culture.

Stone city has a long history. It had frequent trade with ancient China, ancient Persia and Arab countries for over a thousand years ago. So its commercialization level is much more higher than many other African countries. It's a gem in the Indian Ocean.

In stone town there are numerous narrow streets, noisy bazaars, mosques, and splendid arab-style houses. Initially the main reason of Arab businessmen spent a lot of money to built incredible gorgeous houses is they wanted to compare with other people. At that time, many people wanted their houses are the best.
Although stone town is not a big city, it is still one of the most prosperous cities in Africa.

In stone town most people believe in Islam, and locals dress conservatively, so there is an advisable for travelers if you go to stone town and it’s better to wear long trousers, regardless of whether you are a man or woman. But if you are go to beach town, you can wear what you like, even bikini.

Stone town has a big night market, there are a lot of food, my favorite is the local barbecue. Travelers have to careful of hygiene of food, many food in the night market are not fresh.

As a tropical place, the local fruit juices are very fresh and tasty.

桑给巴尔岛是我去过最美丽的一座岛屿，其中的主城石头城更是非洲最特别的城市之一，被列为世界文化遗产。桑给巴尔岛虽然归属于坦桑尼亚，但文化和宗教独立，进入桑给巴尔岛甚至会在护照上盖章。在历史上桑给巴尔也是一度作为独立的岛屿，与阿拉伯世界有着悠久的贸易史。岛上融合着非洲传统黑人文化、伊斯兰文化及印度文化的混合，是这里的一大特色。
石头城历史悠久，在千年前已经和古中国、古波斯还有阿拉伯国家有了频繁的贸易往来，商业程度极其发达。是印度洋上的一颗明珠。桑给巴尔岛特产香料。
桑给巴尔岛石头城仍然保留着完好的古代建筑。城中有无数狭窄的街道，有喧闹的集市，有许多清真寺，还有装饰得富丽堂皇的阿拉伯式房屋。最初建造这些房屋的阿拉伯富商们为了同周围的人攀比，不惜任何代价极力粉饰他们的住所。石头城虽然不大，但却是非洲文化最昌盛的城市之一。
岛内绝大部分人都信仰伊斯兰教，当地人着装保守，所以建议旅行者不论男女最好穿长裤，但海边可以穿得清凉些，比基尼也没问题。
石头城有一个很大的夜市，有许多不同国家的美食，我最喜欢的是当地烧烤，不过旅行者还是要尽量注意饮食卫生，夜市里的许多食物并不新鲜。
坦桑尼亚作为热带盛产水果，当地的果汁也非常新鲜好喝。
