Myeong-dong (명동) and Namsan (남산) in Seoul (서울)
Hi Steemit community!
Here goes my first post- how exciting! My brother (@wreckognize) introduced it to me as an amazing way of telling the story of my adventures in life. You can also see my adventures of my Instagram accounts jihea_kim_ and happylifeadventures. So the first adventure I bring to you is my trip last Septmeber to South Korea, the country of my parents. Although I speak Korean and eat Korean food daily, the culture has been very much absent from my life, as I was born and raised in the UK. This was the first time I had been to Korea in approximately 7 years and the only time I have been without my parents.
The first week I spent in Seoul and this post shares photos specifically from my time spent in Myeong-dong and up Namsan mountain in central Seoul.
Myeong-dong is the place-to-be for weekend shoppers, especially lovers or clothes and/or cosmetics. I always heard that Chinese tourists flock to the area to buy the make-up, which is meant to be the best in the world due to the demand to look natural by Korean women.
We tried to go to the most authentic looking Korean canteen where we saw workmen and women running in and out of during their lunch break for a quick fix. My boyfriend and I chose to go with beef bulgogi (a classic for Korea cuisine first timers) and dumpling soup (my childhood favourite).
After a very appetising and satisfying lunch, we went exploring for something sweet. With the country's obsession with taking good pictures (all things instagrammable) and good food I knew I would soon stumble upon something suitable. Matcha and vanilla ice cream tower, as you can see in the photo, cost 2500WON which is approximately £1.74 at the current exchange rate- a bargain if you ask me!
To finish off a near perfect day, we decided to get the cable car up Namsan mountain in order to watch the sunset over Seoul- something many friends had recommended. It truly was a beautiful and mesmerising view.
When we reached the top we took a few more photos before deciding to walk back down in order to burn off the calories that we had consumed throughout the day.
