My bf @jacklimberis and I have been in Ko Phi Phi Don Island for almost two weeks and yesterday was our first boat trip to visit surrounding Islands including Maya Bay where the movie “The Beach” was filmed. We had lunch at Bamboo Island, went to Monkey beach, but didn’t see any monkeys and we also did some snorkelling.

Our friend @dhilmi has a friend who lives and works on the Island at Visa Travel Agents who arranged our awesome boat trip. In this picture our Captain and tour guide who did an excellent job in entertaining us for the day.

The highlight of the trip for me was snorkelling as it was a first for me as being from Cape Town, our oceans are very cold and there are these big white sharks who swim around which is the reason why I have not even swam in the ocean before. My Bf, the dive master, had not realised this before we jumped off the boat at Monkey Beach for our first snorkel, but luckily I am a pretty good swimmer.

I am proud of myself for taking this picture of the fishes whilst teaching myself to snorkel. I was absolutely blown away at how amazing it was to be underwater and seeing its beauty. We snorkelled at shark point but fortunately I didn’t see any sharks (unfortunate for everyone else though haha). We also did a night snorkel and saw plankton, these little fishies light up like little stars in the ocean. Unfortunately I did not get to take a picture.

Phi Phi Island is so picturesque, there is so much to see and I absolutely recommend a boat trip as one will see all the surrounding Islands in one day plus the added bonus of snorkelling and swimming in the beautifully clear blue seas are just bliss. I have never had so much fun in one day. I cannot wait for our next adventure to Krabi, Koh Tao and Koh Samui.

This pic was taken at Maya Bay, unfortunately it is no longer the most exquisite beach in Phi Phi due to a tourist overkill. I hope that Maya Bay will get to close down to restore itself again.

In March 2018 Thai authorities announced that Maya Beach would be closed to tourists for four months to allow it to recover from environmental damage due to excessive visitor numbers.[5] The beach receives an estimated 4,000 visitors per day, while 200 boats per day set anchor in the bay. Surveys by marine biologists have found that 80% of the coral reefs surrounding the bay have been destroyed by long-term boat traffic and pollution; marine life is virtually nonexistent as a result.[6] When Maya Beach reopens visitor numbers will be limited to 2,000 people per day and boats will have to dock outside the bay.[7]>
