Hidden Paradise in the U.S.
It's worth going through Hell to get to Heaven!
This is a trip my wife and I took to Havasupai Falls!
Havasupai Falls is on a reservation just west of the Grand Canyon.
There are about 6 to 8 amazing waterfalls stretching about 4-5 miles through the valleys.
Camp sites are set up along the crystal clear water and you have the freedom to roam the whole area and visit every waterfall at your own pace. The video does not do it justice; it is truly paradise!
But it is straight up HELL getting there!!
Well..... if you do it in the middle of the July heat it is!
Your journey starts 2 miles up on the "hill top", then an extra 8 miles to the village. Once you get to the Village, and walk all the way through it, about .5 miles; its another 2 miles to the camp sites!!
We tried to prepare ourselves physically and mentally but it was one of the most draining and challenging things we ever did. Carrying all of your gear with you (55 pounds for me and about 35 pounds for my wife) makes for a long hike. It didn't help that my wife's hiking boots were a half size to small. She had to ditch those and put my sanuks on about 6 miles in. We were in so much pain by the time we got there. My wife had blisters from her boots and I couldn't move after carrying both of our bags the last two miles.
We had no idea it was going to be that tough, but we did it!!
AND IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!
Although we didn't get to visit all of the falls because we were only there for a day and a half, the ones we did visit were enough for us to plan another trip back. Next time we will stay 3-4 days.
Check out our video that documents our adventure and if your ever looking for a place to go, check out Hasasupai Falls at the Hasasupai Reservation in Arizona.
Needles to say, We had the horses carry our bags back for us! They also have a helicopter that will transport you to and from the "hill top" to the village. But that's cheating!!
i know all of your posts are wonderful, and i read them @ronaldmcatee
