Sremski Karlovci - a fantastic rustic town between the Danube River and the mountain of Fruska Gora.

The most beautiful city I have ever visited is Florence, so sophisticated, gentle and artistic town. Unfortunately, the pictures from my visit to this town have mysteriously disappeared, so I rely solely on the memory and the wonderful and unforgettable feeling that Florence left on me.

But there is a small town in Serbia, with just over 7000 inhabitantson, located on the slopes of the mountain of Fruška Gora and on the bank of the Danube - Sremski Karlovci. With its warm shades of yellow and orange, old and rustic houses and buildings Sremski Karlovci reminds me of Florence. Perhaps my comparison is excessive, but it is simply a personal feeling.

Sremski Karlovci are peaceful, hospitable, well known and historically significant town in our country. There are many impressive buildings of beautiful architecture on the Branko Radičević Square -Karlovci - Theological Seminary, Grammar School, Patriarchal Palace, Four Lions Fountain, Magistrat, Cathedral Church, Roman Catholic Church, and the oldest pharmacy in Vojvodina.

According to one legend, which is often mentioned in this town, who drinks water from the Four Lion Fountain, he must be returning to this town. Still, if you ask me it's not up to the water. It's a charm of a city that attracts like a magnet.

Sremski Karlovci are famous for the oldest Serbian Grammar School. The school was founded in 1791. Nowadays, Karlovci Grammar School is a philological secondary school. It is a great honor to be a student of the Karlovac Grammar School.

The narrow curved streets with the ruined facades of old houses give a special charm to the town. It is a real pleasure to wander around them.

The journey will surely lead you to a botanical garden - a large park that seems to be part of a forest.

Karlovci are famous for delicious wine. The tradition of viticulture is very old, even from the time of the Romans. You can buy wine in local wineries, or you can order it in one of the restaurants or taverns, and with good food and music in the real Vojvodina ambience spend the rest of the day.
So we ended our day in Sremski Karlovci - with red wine, traditional food and sound of tamburica (meaning "little Tamboura") - local musical instrument.
