Perfect day - Deliblato sands and Kraljevac lake - enjoyment in a unique nature

Today I am going to take you for a walk along the "Path of Health", one of many in the Deliblato sands - unique and fantastic place in Serbia and the largest sandy terrain in "old continent", often called "European Sahara". It is located in the southeastern part of the almost perfectly straight Pannonian Plain, the bottom of the former Pannonian Sea. The Serbian part of the Pannonian Plain is Vojvodina. The relief of this area is generally very monotonous - flat, flat, flat. Why is it level? Because it is the bottom of the former sea? Not. Landscapes of this region formed by strong winds and river deposits. The winds have ruled here during the Ice Age, and today they are very strong. They were leveling this plain, but they also formed sands and loess plateaus, which make this region very interesting. Here we are on one of them, a representative, unique and magical Deliblato sands. :)

Our "Path of Health" is about 4 kilometers long. It starts and ends in Čardak, the tourist and recreational center of the Deliblato sands. The trail is well marked. Along the path, there are boards with quotations about health and importance of physical activity.

The first thing that attracted my attention was the blue arctium (Echinops ritro). Its blue color is incredible. Echinops ritro is used as an ornamental plantand and it will stay perfectly blue for two years in a vase. Otherwise, Deliblatska sands is home to many endemic plant species.

The afforestation of the former desert and the stopping of sand spread began in the early 19th century, during the reign of Maria Theresa. After the desert was measured, species are selected for afforestation: birch, white pine, white and black poplar. Afforestation with acacia was started in the middle of the 19th century and proved to be very effective. That is why Deliblato sands today are a paradise for beekeepers.

The sand is now covered with vegetation, but our path was sandy. It was very interesting for me to walk on the sand which is the wind during the Pleistocene brought it to this place.

Our course was not difficult, but in some places we had to climb a few dunes. Here's a look from one dune to the other we left behind.

Along the track in a couple of places are placed wooden benches. We used this convenience and made short breaks enjoying the nature.

In some places I had the impression that I am in Africa :)

Our walk lasted about an hour and we really enjoyed it. We went back to Čardak where we rested and went on - to the lake Kraljevac, also known as the Deliblatsko lake. We captured the most beautiful moment, the sunset. Kraljevac is a beautiful artificial lake located near the village of Deliblato on the edge of the Deliblato sands. Although not attractive to tourists, this lake likes to visit fishermen and nature lovers.

The specificity of this lake is floating islands, which winds blow over the surface. Also, in the calm waters of this lake, otters can be seen.

We waited for the evening to fall and go home. The views of the Kraljevac lake were perfect for the end of this wonderful day.
