City Zen - A japanese style capsule hostel in Central Belgrade
I
needed a place to sleep last night when I arrived in Belgrade on my way to Sofia, and I searched for hostels to stay at, and it just so happened this one is one of the closest you can find near the Belgrade Central Railway Station.
This is the front counter area:
This little kitty is actually recently a mother, I've never seen such a small cat have kittens already... Apparently one was stillborn and there was two in her litter.
This is the main common area upstairs (er, on the ground level). The space feels like a loungeroom though they haven't quite got the atmosphere right with the most part of walls and ceilings, it feels a bit like an office. But this room has a very nice, rustic, sorta Zen charm.
Out front is a bunch of tables for people to sit and drink and smoke etc. The red haired lass in this picture was doing the afternoon/night shift and helped me find my ventolin inhaler when I woke up early this morning breathing quite poorly.
This is a little display of potted flowering plants on the wall beside the entrance:
They have a bar/cafe/gig venue next door to the main entry:
This is a nice mural inside the cafe:
That there the bottom bunk was where I slept:
Some pictures of the other capsules. All of this was downstairs, btw, underground.
As I was walking around today I spotted this rather funny altered sign:
Anyway, City Zen is a great place to stay, it costs about €10/night, and the staff are absolutely awesome. I give it 4.5 stars just based on the fact they are in the process of renovating it still, but I really enjoyed my time there and I would recommend it to anyone who happens to be in Belgrade looking for somewhere to stay.
WOW! I love the Capsule looking thing! I love the thought of a little more privacy. I really want to try staying in a hostel. But so far I've been a little scared haha.
Interesting post.
Looks like an interesting hotel.
You disturb the cat! just kidding!
It was nice as it was clean, tidy and comfortable.
@lok1 thats cool. I actually never had seen a hostel like that. And you say this was underground, it feels like a bunker to me. Otherwise it seems nice, you can see the people put a lot of effort into it.
