In the south of India

Today I wanted to tell you about our Backwater experience in Aleppey in march, (Alappuzha).
Before we went to the South, we travelled the most of the time in the North of India and then moved down to Madurai. From there we took a lot of busses and made a little tour to explore the South. We decided to end our last few days up with a nice backwaters tour.

Backwaters in Alappuzha

We had a wonderful time in Aleppey. The busdrive to this place was very beautiful, you saw the ocean in the orange sun, a lot of palms, fields and small houses, a great peacful sight.

As we arrived, our first mission was to get a scooter. This is easy when you have a smatphone with you. The heat was sudatory and we was glad to arrive the scooter rental. We also had a look at the rooms, that they also offered there. The rooms were for that price more than good, in contrast to what we had before. It's always funny how "high" the prices in the fucked up citys are and then you come to the beautiful beachy places and they are so much less but even in a better condition.
However, we moved on with our scooter to explore the beaches from allepey, because we prefered to stay on the beach. We were very lucky, because it was low season and some of the hotels had no guests. We found a quiet luxury place with no guests and they made us a special offer for one night. The price was insanly good, we payd something like 7 euros so we stayed another night. It was sooo relaxing to stay there after small, dirty rooms and beds where it's ok to stay one night but you don't feel really comfortable. This was a nice recovery.

The beaches were nice but not that special, but the "villages" and the community all around the beach was so friendly and beautiful! And we ate so much, so much fabulous stuff...
We always wanted to eat fish and seafood, because we thought we're sitting on the source. We always saw fisherboots on the water and sometimes on the land, sorting their catches, but in every restaurant and streetfood place we ask they never really got fish. We don't know if this had something to do with their religion or if we just had bad luck. So we decided to take our destiny in our own hands and bought some fish from the fishermens. We bought some shark, tuna, baracuda and more fishes and also crabs (don't worry not all in one day) and let them be grilled in restaurants or hotels. This was a big challenge, because many of them didn't want to to that for a reason we dont know.

On our last final days we drove to the houseboat harbour and wanted to check out the prices for a houseboat tour...

Great post and nice photos. Can you also suggest some nice place to stay (without hurting pocket) ?

@lifecruiser, thanks. I dont remember the exact names. You just have to look and to bargain. if you see that there are not much people or its out of season the possibility to get a cheaper price is higher. Also how I mentioned accomodation at beach place are mostly cheaper and better than in town. Are you travelling right now ?

Might travel by end of December or Jan 2nd week.
