Reichstag in Berlin, Germany
Good day friends.
My third day in Berlin, I got up, had good breakfast, and set off for Tiergarten again, to walk the same path I had done the previous day, but in the opposite direction.
In the underground I couldn't resist taking this picture of a family complete with their fluffy dog.

So I got at the Brandenburg Gate, walked quickly down to the Victory Column, and then started going up again taking of course loads of pictures. There was still ice and snow everywhere.

I was quite impressed by the Bismarck Memorial. It depicts Prince Otto von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of Germany, with four other figures below him;

You can read more about the Memorial and what each statue symbolizes at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bismarck_Memorial.
There were a lot of impressive state buildings along the way. And then of course I reached the Reichstag, the building where the German Parliament meets.

The glass dome you see on top of the Reichstag isn't of course an original feature; the building was destroyed by fire and bombs. This is how it was before:

It was actually open to the public, but the queue was so long I gave it a miss. I made my way back towards the Brandenburg Gate.

All this walking made me thirsty, so I had a nice mocha cappuccino to warm myself up at the local Starbucks.

Then I did some more sightseeing and went for dinner at an Italian restaurant I had found the night before. It was a very cosy place with red tablecloths and a friendly atmosphere, and offered a large range of pasta dishes like my favorite gnocchi.
Some more sightseeing and then back at the hostel, for my next day museum burnout.
Next post will be about the amazing Pergamon Museum, so stay tuned!
