A blue perl at the peak
Lake Sevan is one of the highest lakes worldwide. At a surface elevation 0f 1900 meters the basin spreads of a length of 74 km (46 mi) and a width of 32 km (20 mi). The surface area is 1,238.8 km2 (478.3 sq mi) an the water volume 33.2 km3 (26,900,000 acre⋅ft).
All the water is deep blue under a clear mountain sky. The lake is situated in Gegharkunik Province of Armenia. Lake Sevan is fed by 28 rivers and streams. Only 10% of the incoming water is drained by the Hrazdan River, while the remaining 90% evaporates.
The lake provides some 90% of the fish and 80% of the crayfish catch of Armenia. Sevan has significant economic, cultural, and recreational value. Its only island (now a peninsula) is home to a medieval monastery. I fyou have a chance to see this nature wonder, don´t let it go away.
