Amsterdam , every youngsters dream city. I will give you some unknown knowledge about Amsterdam, Holland.

)25,000: That’s the number of bicycles that end up in Amsterdam’s canals each year. Oddly, they say only 8,000 bikes are pulled out of the canals annually. It sounds like there are quite a few bicycles still lurking under the waters.

)20,000,000: That’s approximately the number of tourists and day-trippers who visit Amsterdam in a year. That’s about 20 times as many tourists as locals! Luckily it is still possible to find peaceful places to relax. Check out some of Amsterdam’s beautiful parks.

)4: That’s the number of meters Schiphol, Amsterdam’s airport, sits below sea level. If sea levels rise, the airport might have to be transformed into a shipping port. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

)The whole of Amsterdam plus some more is entirely built on water. In fact you might notice how some buildings are a bit lop-sided – it’s because the soil underneath is so swampy.Buildings in Amsterdam actually have to be built on long poles that get dug deep into the ground to prevent them from sinking right down underwater.

)Smoking tobacco in cafés and restaurants was banned in Amsterdam in 2008. But listen here, smoking weed is still allowed in coffee shops. You can smoke a joint but if they catch you with tobacco, look out!

)Amsterdam is one of the top 25 safest cities in the world. Who would have thought, what with all the marijuana and prostitution?

)Coffee lovers! Amsterdam residents are the second largest consumers of coffee in the world, consuming around 3.2 cups of coffee per person, per day.

)Amsterdam was the first capital city in the world to allow gay marriage which includes all rights and obligations for gay and lesbian couples.

)Amsterdam’s first gay bar still exists: it’s Cafe ‘t Mandje on Zeedijk 63 and it was opened in 1927! The owner Bet van Beeren was lesbian. She allowed men dancing with men and women dancing with women. But no kissing!

)coke is cheaper.Around 25 to 50 percent of European coke travels trough the port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest seaport. The port handles around 11 million freight containers every year. Dutch port authorities only check around 5000 of them.

)Almost All The Hash In Holland Is Imported.
Old trading routes from North Africa and the Middle East still play a vital role for the hash trade in Holland. Most of the hash arrives trough Spain from Morocco. Morocco is the major supplier of Dutch hash. This has led to many Moroccan criminal gangs in Holland. All groups together are referred to as the “Mocro Maffia”

)A lot of people still believe growing marijuana in Holland is legal. Well that’s sort of the case. Every person in Holland is allowed to have five cannabis plants for own use. Industrial production however is strictly forbidden. The Netherlands has soft drug laws – especially when you’d compare them with countries like the United States or Indonesia. Sentences range between a fine and a couple of years in prison if you get caught producing or trafficking drugs. Compare that to the death penalty in Indonesia!

)De Wallen is home to the Temple of Venus, or Amsterdam’s world famous smut sex museum. If you have a thirst for 7-foot tall phalluses and turn-of-the-century pictures of people masturbating, then this is definitely the spot for you. And because the museum aims to satisfy your little foray into human depravity sexuality, your visit will be accompanied by audio of sex groans and moans. The strangest sound bite is probably featured in the Marquis de Sade room which is a perplexing combination of a steam engine’s whistley and a woman’s pleasured moans. Sorry, I will not add a sample of the audio – you’ll just have to trawl the internet for it yourself.
