There are handful of buildings through history that have changed the way we see architecture. Hagia sophia is one of them. Today I am gonna introduce you the most famous architecture in İstanbul. Hagia sophia is a first place that most of the tourists visit in İstanbul. It's located European side of İstanbul. It is right across the open square from Blue Mosque.

General information about Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia in İstanbul what was once Constantinople. Before that was Byzantium. First it was a Greek city then part of Roman empire and then Constantine decided to found a city there. Which he called the new Rome and which came to be known as Constantinople. Constantine was recognizing Christianity. By the end of that century, Christianity would be become the official relation of the Roman empire. It is the most important Byzantine structure and one of the world’s great monuments.

It's known " Hagia Sophia" in Greek, "Sancta Sophia" in Latin and Ayasofya in Turkish. It was built in the 6th century and for nearly a thousand years was the largest Cathedral in Christendom. Hagia Sophia is one of the most important monuments of the architectural history. It has been built as an Orthodox Churh. When Ottoman conquered İstanbul, It was converted into a mosque and In 1934, It’s converted into a museum.
