The biggest temple in Bagan.
Damayangyi temple ,Buddha statues and surroundings
It was built in the end of the twelfth century,by king Narathu.
The Big Buddha statue in the eastern main entrance is original but it is very pity because of the new modern painting .It becomes devaluation of the culture.
The single piece stone Buddha statue sitting position in the eastern entrance may be the style of the King Anawrahta period. It is little bit fat belly, the hair style looks like tamarind seed and taut body.It is similar like Buddha statues in Shwesandaw and Lawkananda which were built by King Anawrahta.
Twin Buddha statues in the western entrance are original.Twin Buddha statues means performing the miracle of our Buddha infront of the unbelievers/pagans.
The statue in the northern entrance is also original but reguilded continuously.
Original brick monastery of 12th C.May be it was for the monk of Damayanthi where he was dwelling. One oral tradition said because of the monk Damayanthi the temple was called Damayangyi.
Very nice view to see the group of the temples from Damayangyi.
Amazing
