9 (sort of personal) reasons to visit beautiful Lofoten and Vesterålen
There are probably hundreds of reasons why you should visit Lofoten and Vesterålen. If you've already been there, I would love if you'd share your experiences in a comment :) Here are some of mine.
Reason 1: You get to go on amazing hikes and then all of a sudden act like little kids again on a huge swing.
This is Line, my friend who is moving up north with me next week. Read more on that here: Why I quit my job and now moving to the mountains in Norway
This is from Kvalvika in Lofoten, an absolutely stunning place with an unreal beach you just have to go to if you are ever around. Many people bring tents and spend the night on the beach under the midnight sun ... I mean ... WOW!
Reason 2: You get to take selfies with tourists who are on board Hurtigruten.
I'm sorry for my over-excited face, but I got a natural high from being this close to the ferry and from waving at tourists. Hurtigruten goes from Bergen in the south all the way to Kirkenes, which is way, way up north. Actually, this is the ferry that is taking us to Sigerfjord next Saturday. Never been on it before, and rumors says it's filled with American tourists. I can't wait :)
Reason 3: You get to go whale watching!
Okay, so these are not whales, but this is from Andenes, where we were supposed to go whale watching. Unfortunately, there weren't any whales to be seen that day, so we had time for some posing instead. You can also see seals and birds. Those mountains behind us are amazing!
Reason 4: You get to drink water from a mountain ...
This is from Trollfjorden, meaning the fjord of trolls. It's dark and very magic! I got a bit thirsty, and it's safe to say that this felt fresh.
Reason 5: You get to feel very, very small in a big, big world.
So my friends just dropped me off in the middle of Trollfjorden for me to take a time-out ;) Maybe it was here I finally decided to quit my job? If you look very closely, you can see tiny me at the bottom of the mountain.
Reason 6: You get to find small, hidden cabins in the middle of nowhere.
This is the cabin my grandparents visited every summer before they eventually bought the house that I showed you in my first post. There's no water, no eletricity, but in return there's plenty of mice and complete silence.
... And it's a bit charming that you have to go to a stream to get water for your coffee:
Reason 7: You get to go in a hot tub under the midnight sun at 3 am.
This picture will speak for itself.
Reason 8: You get to grill sausages on top of the world at 1 am.
So our last night we decided to go on a hike during the night. It turned out to be a near-death-experience and I've never been happier to have my feet back on concrete after about seven hours of mountain climbing ... I can tell you more about hiking in this area of Norway if people are interested. It's quite different from where I'm from and what I'm used to. Anyway; looking back, it sure was an incredible moment when we sat there eating sausages and just enjoying the view.
Reason 9: You get to kiss like you haven't before.
This is a cod that has been hanging out for a while to dry. Dried fish is a very popular snack in north of Norway. Personally, I haven't started to love it, but maybe in a few months ... :)
Some cod just hanging around ...
So these were just some of my reasons to visit this very special and beautiful area of Norway. Hope you enjoyed it!

Det kan jo ikke bli bedre! Vakre nord Norge:)
Ikke sant? Jeg er betatt :)
Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.
To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.
To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as
[steemit](https://steemit.com)
Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.nice post
This is so inspiring! I wanna quit my job and do the same. What other places and experience you might suggest?
Wow, it looks amazing. What is the best (meaning cheapest) way to get there?
Hi! I think the cheapest would be to fly to Bodø and then take a ferry to Lofoten. There are other airports as well, but those are more expensive. Harstad/Evenes is one option as well. For living the cheapest is of course bringing a tent. We rented a car pretty cheap this summer and stayed at something called Rorbu - google it - super charming :) Let me know if you need any more tips! Welcome to Norway :)
Takk!
I love it!
I'm totally coming to Norway (although it's so expensive....I'm going to have to start making more $!).
It's all about saving :) and it is possible to make it cheaper - you can for instance bring a tent, then accommodation is free :) Welcome!
