Kama Travels #1 - Kuala Lumpur and Malacca, Malaysia

I am going to try a new format for my blog where I will post to different tags about my different interests, all my travel posts will now be labeled "Kama Travels", this post will be following my last 2 posts about Malaysia. In the last few days I was talking about we what did in Malaysian Borneo and now I'm going to share my story about Kuala Lumpur and Malacca. We flew to Kuala Lumpur from Borneo on 26th October and arrived at 10pm and took the train into the city to find a hostel. Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia as well as its largest city and is a very developed city that has mutiple metro lines, skyscrapers, museums, etc. The best thing for me is using Uber(which is very cheap here) and using the metro so travel through this city is easier and cheaper than the other cities in the world.

How to Get to the City From the Airport.

We took the train to KLIA Train Ekpres to KL sentral is 55RM/person and there are a bunch different lines from KL Sentral go to anywhere in the city. You can also take a taxi, an Uber or take the normal train which is cheaper but takes quite a bit longer, we were tired so we chose the fastest way even though it is not the cheapest.

What We Did in KL

Petronas Twin Towers

Petronas Twin Towers are one of the landmarks of KL, along with nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower. The Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and remain the tallest twin towers in the world. There is also a park behind the towers that you can visit to see the nature and a good view of the towers from behind, so if you travel to KL you must go to visit them.

Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are in a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples. It is located in the Gombak District, just 13km north of Kuala Lumpur. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India and is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Murugan. The cave entrance is guarded by a massive gold statue of Lord Murugan that is the most iconic thing about the caves. The cave is free to enter but there is a large staircase that you have to climb to view the caves themselves. At the top there are a couple of Indian guys selling the peanuts to feed the monkeys and we bought some and fed them. But we realized after that you are not supposed to feed the monkeys and I felt bad for doing it, sodon't fed the monkeys no matter how fun it seems.
How to get there
We went to KL Sentral to take Kelana Jaya Line and get off on Batu Caves station. Also you can get a uber or a taxi.

Little India in Brickfields

Little India in Brickfields is located just outside of the city centre. A wide street with Indian stores and restaurants run by the country's Indian community. The shops here are selling traditional Indian goods such as: saris, flowers, spices, etc. There are also a lot of really great authentic Indian restaurants here and we at a couple of nice meals here for a very cheap price, definitely check it out.
How to get there
To get to Little India in Brickfields, you can either take the Putra LRT and stop at KL Sentral or take the KL monorail and then stop at KL Sentral.

Chinatown/Petaling Street

Petaling Street is one the famous places in KL,where is the most backpackers travel to the city and stay in. There are a ton of hostels around the Petaling Street. Day or night, visitors keep coming to here to dine on the famous street food, get some good bargains on the things sell here. If you are looking for high quality fake merchandise then this is the place to go, they have literally everything you could want from headphones to purses and all prices are negotiable. We spent a bit of time exploring the market and I think it is much better than the markets in neighboring Thailand.
How to get there
We took the Kelana Jaya Line and get down at the Pasar Seni LRT Station. Also you can take a taxi or uber.

Malacca

Malacca is a rich trading history and multicultural heritage and also is a rewarding town to explore and is about two hours from Kuala Lumpur. Today, you can still see the imprints of British, Dutch and Portuguese forces left behind in forts, museums, churches and towers. The town itself is really beautiful and very different from the other places we visited in Malaysia, there is a large river that passes through town that is surrounded by beautiful old buildings, it should not be missed.

What We Did in Malacca

Jonker Street

This is the main shopping street for tourists, it's full of restaurants, shops and cafes where you can buy all your souvenirs. We visited this street and went to the famous restaurant called "Hainanese Chicken" to try the steamed and roasted chicken, it was delicious. However, when we visited Malacca it seemed like more than half the shops were always closed and I am not sure what the reason was for this.

Stadthuys/The Dutch Red Square

This is the famous square in the center of Malacca where all the buildings are colored the same deep shade of red. This area also called Dutch Red Square and all the buildings are styled and colored in a traditional Dutch fashion. This square is always packed with tourists but it is a must see if you are visiting Malacca.

St. Paul's Hill & Church

The church is up on the hill in the center of Malacca and it is said to be the oldest church in the south-east Asia. The church is mostly ruins do to it's age but it is still worth a visit and the view from the top of the hill gives you a real sense of how things were back then. You can see why it was a major shipping/trading hub all those years ago because of its position with the river coming in from the ocean. We walked up to there and explored the church for 20 minutes or so before heading back down to Malacca, it really is quite a nice spot to visit.

Malacca River Cruise

This cruise takes you from the end of the city near the ocean all the way up through the city and then turns back around and comes back to where it started. We paid 15RM/each to get on the cruise because we kept seeing the boats going up and down the river and we weren't disappointed. The whole cruise takes about an hour start to finish and moves at a relaxing pace while the driver tells you a little about some of the sights and on the way we even got a chance to see a monitor lizard swimming through the river! For the cheap price, there are a lot of worse ways to spend an hour here so definitely have a look.

We spent about 10 days between Kuala Lumpur and Malacca and it was an amazing experience for the both of us. Both cities are filled to the brim with different cultures coming together and existing in parallel and there is loads of interesting history behind them both. If you are ever in Malaysia you should definitely go visit both these cities and see some of the sights that we saw. I hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading!

前两天和大家分享了我们在马来西亚婆罗洲的旅程，之后我们就飞往吉隆坡，然后在这边呆了一个多星期。在吉隆坡呆了3天，在马六甲呆了3天，我们真的是太喜欢这个两个城市。吉隆坡是马来西亚的首都，是马来西亚最大的城市之一。这里交通十分发达和方便，地铁、公交、的士、火车、大巴等，所以去哪里都很方便。重点是uber在马来西亚是合法的，所以我们也经常剩坐，这样为我们这些旅客剩了不少钱。吉隆坡是个多文化多种族的城市，不同肤色不同语言不同服饰的马来人、印度人和华人在吉隆坡和谐共处，所以这里会很多圣洁的清真寺、繁复的印度庙、哥特式的教堂，非常有特色。

来到吉隆坡，一定要去双子塔。双子塔是吉隆坡的地标，你不去双子塔就等于你去北京不去长城，没意思。塔高452米，共88层，下面是Suria商场，里面商品一应俱全，从平价品牌到奢侈品牌都有;还有小印度，吉隆坡有很多印度人，自然肯定有小印度。小印度是一条充满印度商店，印度餐厅的商业街。我们非常喜欢印度菜，这在吃了几顿非常地道的印度菜; 还有一个值得大家去的景点就是黑风洞，离市中心有13公里，到市区剩坐地铁过去是非常的方便，半个小时左右就到了。不需要门票，山脚下有一尊巨大的金佛像，然后再走楼梯上去山洞，路上和山顶上会有很多猴子向旅客要食物，还有几个印度人在买花生给游客去喂猴子，但是到处都有牌子写着不要喂猴子，可是一开始我没有看到还是喂了几只猴子；最后一点景点我一定要分享给大家就是唐人街，唐人街有很多美味的街边小吃和餐厅，还有各种仿冒大牌的商品，和各种手工商品，淋漓尽致。还有这里是背包客的聚集地，很多青年旅舍，但是太破旧所以我们没有住在唐人街里。

在基隆皮呆了几天之后，然后坐大巴去马六甲。马六甲是一个很有历史的小镇，2008被联合国列入世界文化遗产名录，地位相当于泰国的清迈，很多当地人说如果你来马来西亚没有去马六甲就等于你没有来过马来西亚。马六甲最著名的就是荷兰红屋广场，就在市中心，附近的建筑都是荷兰建筑风格。圣保罗教堂：全天开放，就是市中心的小山上，走路上去就几分钟。是葡萄牙人所建的教堂，也是东南亚最早的一个教堂，据说这里是看日落的好地方。我们还去了马六甲河坐船欣赏这个小镇的景色，十分不错，值得推荐。如果你也喜欢这种安静而充满历史故事的小镇，那你一定要来马六甲。还有一定景点你一定会去的就是鸡汤街，好搞笑的中文名字。这条街是商业步行街，充满了当地纪念品店，餐厅，咖啡厅，外墙上都画满了壁画，充满艺术感，但是有一点我真的不明白为什么这条街在7点左右就停止营业？哈哈，这也太早了吧，还有一半的商店平时都不开门。很多人来马六甲都是当天来回，而我们却在这里呆了3天，可见我们是真的很喜欢这种安逸的小镇。
