A couple in Spain (Madrid - Part 1)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

We chose Madrid and Spain as our destination in Europe because, considering all costs, it was the cheapest destination. Ready. That simple.

And looking at the map gave us the real dimension of the possibilities that were within a 250 km radius of the city: five beautiful medieval cities, five heritages of humanity. And many bus schedules are readily available, often up to half the price of a train. Since the subject "money" has always been our "trending topic", that was perfect. There, our script was drawn!

A small 10 hour flight across the Atlantic, plus the airport subway to downtown, plus a smaller 10-minute walk and we were at the hostel - Mad4you. Lively place, lots of people, a large social area, music. The neighborhood is called Malasanas, and it's a bohemian neighborhood, with lots of bars of all kinds.

At the hostel (the image is shaken because whoever took it had already drunk a lot)

As funny as I can tell about the hostel, it happened already on the first day. I walked into the shared bathroom of our room and found many hairs on the floor and over the sink, as if a dog had been sheared there. But I knew that dog was the type that walks on two legs. Someone (our suspicion never was confirmed) had trimmed his hair (by the amount I think almost the entire body, so people with swimmer's body would obviously be the first suspects) and left it all on the floor and in the bathroom sink. A nest of human hair on the floor, scribbles made of human hair on the sink. The next day everything was clean and it did not happen anymore. Good. It would be tricky to brush my teeth in that sink hahaha !!!! But, apart from that, we got lots of laughs, drinks, conversations and friendships.

Going aimlessly through Madrid is uncomplicated, funny, costs nothing, and has plenty to see and enjoy.

Plaza Mayor. Today a place of many restaurants and shops, has already been the scene of celebrations, bullfights, fairs and executions. Celebrated 400 years recently.

Post office building. "Refugees welcome". And the stage being prepared for the celebration of the fans of Real Madrid, that same day, at night. And we were there.

And you also have plenty to eat. Spain is a gastronomic orgy in the form of a country. Delicacies hide behind every bar, restaurant or bakery, waiting to be discovered by some palate avid for the taste of fresh produce, and all combined in a varied and inventive way.

And there's the jamon, the raw ham of Spain.
In the early days we practically only ate jamon.
The master of ceremonies of this gastronomic orgy.

Squid rings and special spicy sauce.

Paella!! Humm!! And anchovy with vinaigrette!!! Humm! again!!!

I think it's shredded crab with spices, inside an oyster or something like that. So delicious that I almost forgot to take the photo.

Jamon (hung from the ceiling) and endless others types of sausages, hams and cold cuts.

I do not remember what was it, but I remember it was good.

same as above . . .

It is also worth noting the style of the bars in Madrid. Both inside and out. From traditional to alternative. Those which impressed us most had their walls covered by tile murals with scenes from Madrid's history. Perfect for sitting and drinking a beer cane. And shout "olé" when drunk enough.

And the Latin way, is it present in Madrid? Yes, often in the way people behave. The madrilenho is expansive, extroverted and speaks loudly. Much like us Brazilians hahaha. There was a day, when we quietly drank a beer in a bar, when suddenly the two waiters began a tense discussion with each other, small offenses and taunts screamed over their shoulders as they served their customers with a smile. The tone of the discussion increased, and when it was our turn to be attended, we did not dare interrupt the two, waiting in respectful silence until the matter was finally closed and the last grunts spread through the air before disappearing. After all, what importance did our order have in the face of a discussion that decided, without a doubt, which team is the best in Spain? Only then we ordered our inconvenient beer hahaha !!!

And we were lucky enough to see Real Madrid as champions of the Spanish League. We went to the Cibeles Fountain, already at dawn, to welcome the champions along with their fans. The mood was one of total euphoria. As I was with the shirt of Brazil, and there are many Brazilians at Real Madrid, I was hugged and kissed by some drunken fans, who also spat at me when they said they loved Brazil. After 2 hours waiting for the players, our reward was a few minutes with them, from far away, without seeing anything.

The few minutes . . .

And on our first last night in Madrid (we would still have three more last nights before the last and final night, when we would return to Brazil) we packed 3 pieces of clothes for the 7 days that we would be traveling by bus in the region. The next day the first stop: Toledo.

TRANSLATED TO PORTUGUESE

No dia seguinte a primeira parada: Toledo.
