Gulangyu, Xiamen, China

We eventually arrived at Gulang Island in Xiamen. It is a small tourist island off the main island of Xiamen. It is a world heritage site and an AAAAA Chinese scenic spot. I normally try to stay clear from these tourist traps, but this island's unique colonial heritage and architecture sounded interesting enough to give it a go.

Luckily, we arrived in the rain and the temperature also dropped several degrees, which made it unattractive for the average tourist.

For a time, Gulangyu was the only international settlement on Chinese soil apart from the International Settlement at Shanghai.
