Very built up and changed since visiting in the 1970's, again in 2005 @zoltarian, I must be honest in saying I do prefer being outside of the cities.
We traveled by train using youth hostels we found it to be very comfortable throughout Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
My only regret was not having digital photography those days.
We didn't use hotels very much. We were camping outside near a lakeside or in a field we find camping is alright. I can suggest staying outside because you can be wherever you want. and you can see all the stars in the nights. Don't regret about digital photography It still can't render the image what your eyes see :)
