Making Adaptations to Survive

in #travel6 years ago

I just finished watching a blind lady dance on the television show called Dancing With the Stars. I don’t usually watch this show, but my TV just happened to be on this channel because I do watch the show “The Good Doctor.”

Well, I was impressed with this lady because she not only learned how to do an excellent dance routine while blind, but she also won a bronze medal competing in a skiing contest!

I got knocked down by a wave in Honolulu and fractured my ankle. It was a powerful wave and I stumbled and fell awkwardly. As I have been trying to make adjustments to my life with a hard splint on and possibly facing a complete cast, I have seen more people with disabilities doing extraordinary things this week.

My father used to say that you will never miss your water until your well runs dry. That applies to our senses, our mobility and other attributes that we take for granted.

I am determined to make the necessary adaptations so that I can continue to live my life to the fullest. I already have three trips planned before the end of the year. I was able to get wheel chair assistance to fly home from Hawaii, and I am currently using crutches.

I still need to see an orthopedic specialist to determine next steps, but I am confident that I will be able to do whatever it takes to get whole again.

In the meantime, I have gathered my knitting book, my knitting needles in various sizes, my leather, suede needles and patterns so that I can be productive in my down time.

Being sedentary takes some getting used to for me because I lead a very active lifestyle. Who knows, I may gain a little weight now that I have to slow down quite a bit. I can afford to gain about 15 additional pounds.

I am grateful that I am no longer in any pain. I am just not as mobile as I had been before the break.
I’ll be back!

I’m so sorry to hear about your ankle but I’m glad you have needle crafts in your life to keep you busy and motivated. I hope for fast healing and a quick recovery ~

Good time to catch up on hobbies or learn a brand new skill! (^_^)

I’m sure you will have quite a bit of time to write some wonderful blogs that I look forward to reading. Praying for a speedy recovery.
