Vacation Began In Carytown, A Beautiful Place In Richmond, Virginia

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Carytown is a cute place with a bunch of little shoppes, dainty bookstores, tasty eateries, and a movie theater. Located on the west side of Richmond, VA, this town-of-its-own has everything you'd want to spend the whole day in. It also happens to be where we started our week-long vacation.

We didn't spend a whole day in Carytown, but I'd say it was enough to get the feel of the busy life of this hamlet. The business in this place definitely comes from it being located in a large city, but its attractive main street also plays a big role. Most of the buildings looked like they were the original structures, remodeled or very well taken care of, of course. Lots of bright colored buildings, and most definitely constructed with taste. Picture worthy to say the least.

The several hours we spent in Carytown weren't enough to do a lot of shopping, but we squeezed some in. And believe it or not, you can actually find some really good stuff at a Goodwill. The one thing that I would've had a problem with though is the time spent shopping. I went with five girls, imagine that! Luckily for me they didn't spend all day in the stores.

After some of that shopping, we stopped by this amazing place called Greek on Cary for lunch. Definitely a must. Their lamb is just great! Andrew, the waiter, was nice and polite. And for this kind of Greek food, the price is awesome! If you're really hungry after a day of shopping and walking around, you'll be looking at about $16/person on an average check. After a lunch like this, and a stroll like the one we had, we were all ready for a nap.

But not before getting some ice cream! We were recommended to go to JDH Bev's Homemade Ice Cream. We got a double-scoop of their black raspberry. I don't usually say the phrase "to die for", I don't think food or edibles are ever "to die for", but this was close to it. Definitely amazing ice cream! Sorry, no picture of the ice cream. :'(

Unfortunately, the forecast overhead was getting darker with rain-clouds and that brought our wanderings in Carytown to a closing. We didn't want to get caught under pouring rain a mile away from our parking spots, so we headed for the cars as we savored that delicious ice cream.

Tomorrow we're heading to Charlottesville, VA, and I'll do my best to take more pictures this time. Follow me for more blogs on traveling!
