An enchanting village in Italy
There was an error with uploading this post. that's the reason why it's dubbel. I can't delete this one because you can only do it within +-5min...
Hey steemians!
Today i'm going to convince you to visit the little village called 'San Gimignano'.
As you can see there are a lot of tall buildings, 14 to be exactly. The reason for this goes back in time...
If you wanted to show your neighbours that you were a wealthy person, can you say it to them. Or you could use that money to build a big (for that time) tower. this idea was a big hype in the city, because back then there were no rules how high you could build. At the highlight of the city there were 72 towers standing. That's why they call it the ancient Manhattan of Italy.
Beyond the majestic towers there is also a beautiful cathedral. In fact this is only a little segment of the building:
As you know most of the churches are build like the Christian cross. This is a picture of the horizontal line. The 'bigger ' vertical line was never build. Otherwise it would be the biggest church of Tuscany. The part that was build is still breath-taking:
As you can see, they started building. But it never finished...
Nearby the village are also some ruins of an amphitheatre. When we were there, they were rehearsing a show. we couldn't see the show. I thing it would be really spectacular to see an open air stage performance!
It's really worth visiting the city or just visit Italy. this country has such great history. I hope you liked it!
