Welcome to my World - DUNES, HOUT BAY
Yip, the Mother City was showing off again today! Absolutely idyllic weather! The sun was out to play and there was not a breathe of wind in sight (which are days we treasure here in the cape)... off to Hout Bay we went.
Hout Bay is more commonly referred to by locals as "The Republic of Hout Bay" - in fact the residents of this seaside suburb actually have their own "Hout Bay Identity Books". It is about a 15 minute drive from where we live, but "on the other side of the mountain" - so as the locals will know... two very different types of people either side of "said mountain".
Today we are out and about with Jude's "bff", his mom a very good friend of mine (I think we are somewhat passed the age of bff's lol)and her younger son...
Off to Dunes restaurant we headed...
Dunes is a local Hout Bay favourite - situated right on the beach!
It is an amazing place to go with the kids because you are literally ON the beach, and they can simply go wild!!!
and with three RATHER high energy young lads... it was an answer to our prayers... lol... ok time for drinks!!! hehe For us ladies it was a Boschendal Blanc de Noir Rosé
and for Dave it was a Pina Colada...
It is always a little challenging having "two buddies" together with the little bro... because needless to say, they don't really want the youngster around... but today we were blessed because there was actually quite a few of all their school buddies there... so everybody was happy!!!
Jude's BFF had a bit of an upset stomach... so he was allowed a Coca Cola to settle his tummy! Needless to say.... they all jumped onto that band wagon and juiced it for all it was worth! lol
Today was one of those days where I was actually just SO relaxed and had SUCH a good time... that I actually forgot to take pictures of our food!!! I KNOW!!! RIGHT!!!! SHOCK, HORROR, SHOCK!!!! LOL
Oh well.... suck it up cupcakes!!!! hehehehehe!
I genuinely forgot! In fact, I almost lost my cellphone too.... left it lying outside after accompanying my friend to her smoke break... thank goodness we were in a decent establishment where nobody really had the need to steal a phone and it had been handed in... SEEEEE South Africa has good people!!! lol :)
Lunch done and dusted.... time to walk off the food which I forgot to photograph.... and perhaps some of that wine too... lol
Dave took the bags and drove to the harbour to meet us... we took the scenic route :)
There was a little bit of a dilemma with Leo crossing the "river" but his big boet (brother) stepped in to rescue him... meanwhile... Jude decided to surf a log. lol
Now what would a Cape Town beach walk be, without a little bit of a party... hehe... headphones and all :) these guys were having such a party all on their own it was absolutely classic!
It was quite a long walk, but amazingly enough we didn't encounter ANY moaning... and we were ALMOST there!
The harbour was in sight!!! yeeehaaa!!! and off they ran!!! They were SO impressed with themselves when they looked back at the distance they had just covered! lol Little legs and all.... hehe :)
ARRIVED at LAST!!!!!!!
Hout Bay Harbour is an enormously character filled place, with lots to see and do. It is a day out on its own really, but today was not that day! lol - everyone was tired and ready to hit the road home...
There are vendors all around, selling you everything from ice cream to key chains lol Fishermen and everything else... it is wonderfully colorful!
ooooooh did somebody say ICE CREAM!!!! The boys were ALL too ready to have an ice cream cone... and everybody looks at me like I am mad because I ALWAYS enter into a debate with Jude about this... he LOVES the idea of ice cream... but hes a 6 lick I am done kinda kid.... and mommy knows this... (I think he is finally grasping it too...lol) but after his insistence... he got one... and then we all spent the next 20 min waiting for him to finish it.... lol... his BFF was like "just BITE it Jude" - but.... much like his mother.... he simply couldn't. lol so lick, lick it went... hahahahahaaha!!!!
It was a great day out, but time to head home... the littlies, were MOEG!!! (tired)
but the day would NOT be complete without a quick swim and game of soccer....lol
Until next time...
Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx
