"ONSIES" and OYSTERS! - Welcome to My World!
We have been lazing around the house quite a bit the last few days and
today was such a fabulous day weather wise,
we decided to cure some of the cabin fever
and head out to the local craft market in Hermanus.
For those unfamiliar...
Hermanus is a magical little seaside town southeast of Cape Town,
in South Africa’s Western Cape Province.
It is well known as a whale-watching destination.
The market is a wonderful place to go and enjoy breakfast or brunch.
Quite frankly, I think most people gravitate to it because
A. they can let the kids loose
and B. there is beer and wine with breakfast
hahaha!
The place is ALWAYS crowded,
so finding decent seating to eat whatever you have bought
can often prove challenging...
in many ways you have to wait like vultures until you see
a rear end lift as much as 1mm of a seat lol
We took a quick walk around to see what was on offer food wise...
and there really is just so much to choose from...
from traditional pizza or local fish and chips
to exotic foods and also plenty of banting and vegan options as well
I suppose I should consider myself lucky
that I was the one taking the photo,
because if I wasn't, I have no doubt these old ducks
would have been discussing
my "too short shorts" lol
There is plenty of locally grown produce at the market too
sweet and savoury...
whatever takes your fancy!
and of course... BILTONG!!!
To educate those of you who do not know what biltong is...
it is what Americans would commonly refer to as jerkey
it is not quite the same though...
Biltong is a form of dried, cured meat that originated in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Various types of meat are used to produce it, ranging from beef and game meats to fillets of meat cut into strips following the grain of the muscle, or flat pieces sliced across the grain. Thanks wiki
I opted for some eggs benedict...
one of my favourites!
YUM!
oops, I broke the yolk.... photo fail! lol
oh look... WINE!
(How did that get there?!) lol
Nothing better than a chilled Rosé to accompany your brunch hehe!
Although, at the time, we could only find a table in the sun
so we literally baked as we ate lol
Once we had finished our brunch
we took a stroll around the market to see what there was to see ;)
Out of ALL the stalls, this one caught my attention the most lol
I wonder why!! lol
I thought I might buy the poop for @zord189 because he is so full of it :P but when I came back... it was gone lol (unless you would have liked a pink unicorn poop) hahaha and sorry @amarbir there were no bananas! hahahaha!!!
In Cape Town, every suburb has a craft market, so they can get a little tiresome
in terms of what is being sold...
but there really were some great things on display today
and quite unique too...
I was quite fascinated by these "button style" tekkies (aka sneakers)
as they are not something I have seen before
and the gentleman running the stand explained to us
that it is a local job creation inititative
which I thought was pretty damn awesome!
We continued to roam
and discover a whole lot more
There really was some amazing talent to be seen
which was quite refreshing!
This man's talent really made me stop dead in my tracks!
As South Africans we see a lot of what is referred to as "curios"
and it can get a little long in the tooth to be honest,
but these wood carvings were just spectacular....
A truly talented individual!
On we went exploring...
Jude went on a tractor train ride...
Got a new wooden sword and
was transformed into Spiderman!!
wooohooo!!! lol
What I love about exploring and being present in places like this
is the lively atmosphere!
Everyone is just totally relaxed
and having an absolutely fabulous time!
This was another undiscovered genius,
in my opinion anyway...
This was a Zimbabwean chap
who made the most amazing things
with old bicycle wheels, and metal.
Simply brilliant!!!!
Whilst we were out exploring,
my dad had made a new "crypto friend"
hahaha - yip... we cannot even go to a craft market
and get away from crypto talk! haha!
Can't take you bloody boys ANYWHERE! lol
100SBD to whoever guesses which one is my dad...
Juuuust kidding... he's on the left lol!
Ok exploring done and dusted!
It was time for....
wait for it...
OYSTERS!!!!
Yeah baby yeah!!!!
and DAMN! these were some BIG BOYS!
Super delicious too!!!!
Those were seriously the tastiest oysters I have had in YEARS!
So, it was time for a few "onsies" and some live music...
Another educational stop... "ons" is an Afrikaans word for "we"
and us South Africans, refer to a "selfie" with more than one person
as an
ONSIE
hehehehe
It really was an absolutely fabulous day out!
The first day I have really, actually, HOLIDAYED! hahaha!!
Cheers to that!
Until next time...
Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx
This is such a cool idea and amazing photography! Thank you so much for sharing! I am such a huge fan of oysters! Do you know where they are from or the name of the oyster?
I don't actually.... but they were delicious!! and thats about all that counts hahahaha!!!
Onesies and oysters is quite the juxtaposition! Thank you for sharing so many beautiful pictures with us! Looks like you had a great time.

I WANT THAT POOP!!!! WAI!!!! Haha, I told you it's famous and everyone loves a smiling poop. The next time you see, you gotta grab hold of it and kill everyone or maybe mostly kids who wants it from you.
lol will do!
Mmmmmm al that food. Comfort food to be exact.
Wild'n'Free Diary wishes you all Merry Christmas and peaceful holidays. If you like the greeting card don't forget to like it.
Thank you for the card ;) Merry Xmas to you too x
I feel like I learned so much in that post lol
Hermanus seems wonderful! And I imagine you weren't too upset about wine with brunch.
I too am disappointed that there was no banana pillow :( it makes me question the quality-level of this craft show... ;)
"Onesies" make me think of the PJs where the to and the bottom are all one piece. I was expecting to see you in one of those at the end of the post!
Seems like you're having a great vacation!
hahaha!!! Yes... wine with brunch is always a win lol! and yes it was an awesome day out. Thanks ;)
Those oysters literally made my mouth water. They look SO fresh and clean! I indulge on them when I visit Brazil, tough to get fresh ones in the mid-west.
That wood sculpture guy's work was phenomenal! Love how he did it part finished, part natural. Real cool work.
Thanks for making me feel like I was there :)
That was precisely what attracted my eye to them as well @intothewild. It was something so different. As for the oysters... what can I say... YUMMMMM!!!! lol Glad you enjoyed the outing ;)
Beautiful blog, I wish I was there! Love everything from the beginning: van, food, wine, art, photos of the cured meat ive never seen and just the Natural down to earth atmosphere. My kind of spot!
Ps. I think if you bought the Spidey for @zord189 that would be the Shiznit! LoL (who prob wants a face paint too)
hahahaha yeah... I think a emoji poop face paint is in order for @zord189 lol
... I couldn't find the Spidey face. Why isn't @zord189 chiming in? Will this show up under the "Replies" tab?
That was supposed to be funnier ^^^ LOL
