The Philippine Enchanted River

Enchanted River is located in Barangay Cambatong, approximately 14 to 15 kilometers away from downtown Hinatuan. The town of Hinatuan is two hours away from the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

Surigao del Sur is situated at the eastern coast of Mindanao and faces the Philippine Sea to the east.

The depth of the Enchanted River is still a mystery to many. Estimates range from 70 to 100 feet. The water source of the river is also unknown.

Several pro local and foreign divers have attempted to explore the bottom deep of the river but until today, no one has ever reach it.

The river is also rich in folklore and tales. Stories of mermaids and faires that guarding the river are very popular even to this day. Some old town folk know the river testified that some enchanted people are guarding the river till this very day.

Mystery?

At exactly 12pm, the caretaker of the river will ring a bell requesting everyone to get out of water with no exception as it is fish feeding time. The caretaker will then play the Hinatuan Hymn or music then a massive school of fish will come out of nowhere and will gather at the center part of the river.

The caretaker will feed the fishes with some cook rice bits and octapus meat. Strictly no one is allowed to swim and disturb the fish feeding time. When feeding time is over, the school of fish disappear and goes back to the underwater cave.

Unfortunately, the caretaker and even people near the river cannot explain the ongoing phenomenon. However, they vowed to protect the river and the fish.

A visit to the Enchanted River will surely left you speechless and amazed how beautiful and majestic the enchanted river.
