Best Time to Visit Vietnam # 6 Phu Quoc
This is number 6 in my series of articles explaining the best time to visit different parts of Vietnam. There are many reasons to visit a country and various times of the year provide unique experiences. Vietnam is no different. Phu Quoc is actually closer to Cambodia than it is Vietnam, and has been a source of irritation between the two countries for years.
Phu Quoc is one of the great getaway locations for visitors to and the locals of Vietnam. However, there has never been a better time to visit. Massive ongoing construction is certain to change the island forever. So catch it while you can.
Phu Quoc Weather
Phu Quoc has a tropical climate, which varies significantly throughout the year. The wet season on the island runs from April to October, peaking in July, which can be a very wet month indeed. Temperatures peak in April. The most comfortable and dry months are those of December January and February. Humidity remains quite high, but get on the beach and it will be hardly noticeable.

Tourism Seasons
The best times to dive around the island are the months of November to March, so this is also the busiest time of the year. Many hotels around the main town of Dong Duong get booked up. Tet like everywhere else in Vietnam affects things significantly. The Vietnamese New Year is a huge thing in Vietnam falling normally around February (feb 16 2018), locals will do anything to get home for family holidays. At the same time expats will do anything to get away from the big cities. Hence tet on Phu Quoc can be busier than usual, with less staff to accommodate the influx.
If dancing and partying is your thing then the Episode Festival will be right up your street. If you prefer peace and quiet avoid it like the plague. Episode 2 took place between December 31 and January 10, 2018, and saw thousands flocking to the island. Offering “melodic house during the day and dirty, thumping techno at night” It is not for everyone. It has grown massively from the first festival and is expected to be even bigger next time round.
There are many cultural festivals on the island, the biggest of which is the Vul Lan Festival which is held on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month each year. It translates as the Amnesty of the Spirits and is connected to ancestor worship. Thousands pour into Dong Duong town and gather around the Dinh Tran Pagoda. For details of more festivals check out the Phu Quoc Island Guide website: https://www.phuquocislandguide.com/phu-quoc-island-festivals/
Whenever you decide to visit you are sure to have a great time. Phu Quoc remains, for now, a delightful destination.
