Attractions of Hoi An #3 Museum of Trade Ceramics
The Museum of Trade Ceramics showcases the very start of the city in which it sits. Hoi An has a long and fascinating history as a trading port with countries as diverse as China, India, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand. The city developed quicker than many other s in the area then, was somewhat overtaken by the likes of Da Nang and Nha Trang.
The building in which the Museum of Trade Ceramics is housed is simply an beautifully restored example of the traditional wooden house that made up the entirety of the city in those days. There are many of course here in perfect condition in Hoi An’s Ancient Town. It has been recorded that many these building bear a striking resemblance to the similar properties in Japan.
The house is a two storey building having a courtyard in addition to an anteroom, these are all open to the public. The Museum of Trade Ceramics houses about 430 ceramic artefacts, these confirm the status of Hoi An as centre of the ceramic trade in the region, covering a thousand years from the 8th to 18th centuries. Many of the antiquities were recovered from a ship, wrecked in the Eastern Sea in 1733. some were gathered by archaeologists working on excavation sites in and around Hoi An.
These small intimate museums are dotted around this fabulous small city. Hanoi An is a place in which you will never get bored.
The Museum of Trade Ceramics is open daily between 8am and 5pm.
