| As first congratulations to all fathers to their present day of honor. Many of you will go on hikes with others today and I also want to invite you on a small hike. I would like to introduce you today to some of the most famous castles in Saxony and its origins. As a picture post, old postcards from long ago were used. Ich möchte euch heute einige der bekanntesten Burgen in Sachsen und ihre Entstehung vorstellen. Als Bildquelle dienten hierfür alte Postkarten aus längst vergangener Zeit. Also kommt mit auf die Reise in die Geschichte Sachsen. |
| The castle Hohnstein once gave its name to the town. It probably originated in 12./13. Jarhundert and until 1443, together with the domination of the same name, was a property belonging to the Kingdom of Bohemia. After that, it became the possession of the Wettin, who used it as a place of office, hunting lodge and state prison. The castle was very much a prison. | Die Burg Hohnstein hat den darunterliegenden Städtchen einst seinen Namen gegeben. Sie entstand vermutlich in 12./13. Jarhundert und war bis 1443 zusammen mit der gleichnamigen Herrschaft ein zum Königreich Böhmen gehöriges Besitztum. Nach dem kam es in den Besitz der Wettiner, die sie als Amtssitz, Jagdschloß und Staatsgefängnis nutzten. Als Gefängnis war die Burg sehr geführchtet. |
| From the 12th / 13th Tharandt Castle, which was founded in the 16th century, is now only a ruin. | The Augustusburg is one of the most imposing castles in Saxony. It was named after the Saxon Elector August, who built the present castle in 1567-1573 instead of the old Schellenburg castle. The builders were Hieronymus Lotter from Leipzig. He supported the Mees. The Augustusburg was first electoral hunting castle. Later there were administrations and prisons. Famous is the well over a hundred meters deep. | Die Augustusburg ist eine der stattlichsten Burgen Sachsens. Sie erhielt ihren Namen nach dem sächsischen Kurfürsten August, der 1567-1573 das jetzige Schloß anstelle der alten Schellenburg errichten ließ. Die Baumeister waren Hieronymus Lotter aus Leipzig. | The castle Frauenstein, mentioned for the first time in a document in 1272, was a megalomaniacal meeting in the Middle Ages, and had strong fortifications. After a castle was built in the years 1585-88 below the castle, it was no longer inhabited and decayed. Be destroyed by the city fire of 1728, it is a ruin. | Die 1272 erstmalig in einer Urkunde genannte Burg Frauenstein war im Mittelalter markgräflich-meißnischeBesitzung und wies starke Befesstigunggen auf. | The sunshine was probably already fixed in the Slavic period. In the Middle Ages it was often a controversy between Saxony and Bohemia, and it was well developed in accordance with its military importance. Among the winners the sunstone was extended to the fortress. After the Seven Years' War, however, he lost importance. In 1811, the ruins set up a healing and care center for the mental disorder. In the course of the nineteenth century there were also decisive structural changes, so that today there is almost nothing left of the old plant. | Der Sonnenschein war wahrscheinlich schon in der slawischen Zeit befestigt. Im laufe des 19 Jarhunderts kam es auch zur entscheidenden baulichen veränderungen, so das heute von der alten Anlage fast nichts mehr vorhanden ist. |
| As early as 1200 there was a joke on the rocks above the Zschopau. The main building period of the castle dates from 1383 to 1408. Arnold von Westfalen took part in further construction activities at the end of the 15th century. In the interior of the lap wall and ceiling paintings from the first half of the 15th century have been preserved. | Bereits 1200 befand sich auf den Felsen über der Zschopau ein Gerrensitz. Die Hauptbauzeit des Schloßes liegt in den Jahren 1383 bis 1408. Bei weiteren Bautätigkeiten am Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts wirkte einige Zeit Arnold von Westfalen mit. Im Inneren des Schoßes haben sich Wand- undDeckenmalereien aus der 1. Hälfte 15. Jahrhunderts erhalten. |

very interesting! i love European history, the fact that it goes so far back, and that some of the old castles and buildings are still standing. Thank you for sharing! Cool old prints too!!
