SWAZILAND IN FOG AND THE CANDLE MAKING PROCESS [EN/PL]
After spending an amazing time on the coast of Maputuland in KZN South Africa, I drove up to the border with Swaziland. This was probably the hottest day ever, luckily the car had air-conditioning.
Po spędzeniu niesamowitego czasu na wybrzeżu Maputuland w Południowej Afryce KZN, pojechałam na granicę z Suaziland. To był prawdopodobnie najgorętszy dzień, na szczęście samochód miał klimatyzację.

I had to stop on the side of the road, that was a nature break, since obviously there were no toilets around and after drinking all that water, no chance I could hold it until the next gas station. As i have opened the door, the heat wave struck me and i barely could breathe, literally like going into sauna, min 40'C and scorching sun. It was a really funny scene being burned on the side of the road, in the most vulnerable moment.
Musiałam zatrzymać się na poboczu drogi, przerwą dla natury, ponieważ oczywiście nie było żadnych toalet wokół i po wypiciu całej tej wody, nie miałam szans na dotrzymanie do następnej stacji benzynowej. Kiedy otworzyłam drzwi, żar i fala uderzeniowa była tak silna ze ledwo mogłam oddychać, dosłownie jak wchodzenie do sauny, min 40'C i palące słońce. To była naprawdę zabawna scena, płonąc na poboczu drogi, w najbardziej wrażliwym momencie.

Now, happily reached the border control post and it was again like something out of the movie. Traditionally dressed ladies sitting comfortably behind the thick iron bars, waiting for the next customer. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long, enough to take a closer look on the photos of the reigning kings, previous and the current one hanging proudly on the wall. Got the passport checked, put a stamp in it and I was able to cross the border to Kingdom of Swaziland a sovereign state in South Africa
Szczęśliwie dotarłam do posterunku kontroli granicznej i znów było jak z filmu. Tradycyjnie ubrane panie siedzące wygodnie za grubymi żelaznymi kratami, czekające na kolejnego klienta. Na szczęście nie musieliśmy długo czekać, wystarczyło czasu, aby przyjrzeć się bliżej fotografiom królujących monarchow, poprzednich i obecnych, dumnie zwisających na ścianie. Paszport zostal sprawdzony, wbita pieczęć i udało nam się przekroczyć granicę do Krolestwa Swaziland, suwerennego państwa na terenie południowej Afryki.
Afterwards the weather changed dramatically, the heat stayed but instead of a nice sunny day we had a violent showers and all pervading fog, which was accompanying us all the way back to SA. The pressure also dropped and I felt like a zombie. Anyhow couldn't fully enjoy the landscapes. It was also difficult to drive, one had to really watch out for the animals and fallen rocks on the road. And I’m really talking about the rocks, not small stones.
Finally, we have managed to get to Swazi Candles Factory near Manzini- the goal of this trip - one of the premier tourist attractions. This was the only colourful place on the way as the weather changed the landscape around. A wonderful art village, full of other craft shops and amongst them this lovely scented place, workshop where one could buy and see the process of making the famous Swazi candles.
Potem pogoda zmieniła się diametralnie, upał pozostał, ale zamiast miłego słonecznego dnia mieliśmy gwałtowne ulewy i wszechobecną mgłę, która towarzyszyła nam przez całą drogę aż do powrotu do RPA. Ciśnienie także spadło i czułam się jak zombie. W każdym razie nie można było w pełni cieszyć się krajobrazami. Trudno było też prowadzić, trzeba było uważać na zwierzęta i skały zwalone na drodze. I naprawdę mówię o skałach, a nie o małych kamieniach.
W końcu udało nam się dotrzeć do fabryki świec Swazi w pobliżu Manzini - celu tej podróży, oraz jednej z głównych atrakcji turystycznych. To było jedyne kolorowe miejsce na drodze, gdyż pogoda diametralnie zmieniła krajobraz wokół. Wspaniała wioska sztuki, pełna sklepów z rękodziełem a wśród tych wspaniałości, uroczo pachnące miejsca, warsztat, w którym można zobaczyć proces tworzenia słynnych świec Swazi.

Established already in the 1982, working continuously and supporting the local community, being even a founding member of Swaziland Fair Trade Association. Currently employing 45 people. They include their employees in the the process of decision making and are passionate about providing quality in workplace and life.
They run an organic vegetable garden which produce are free to consume by workers and their families. It’s really a beautiful idea they proudly are sharing, investing in health and well being of their staff.
The products is an astonishing range of patterns, shapes and designs. Not only paraffin candles but 100% soya candle tea lights, glycerine soaps and cosmetics. Genuinely wonderful place. It makes it difficult to choose only few of their products.
Fabryka Założona już w 1982 roku, nieprzerwanie działa i wspiera lokalną społeczność, będąc nawet członkiem-założycielem Suazi Fair Trade Association. Obecnie zatrudnia 45 osób. Włączają swoich pracowników w proces podejmowania decyzji i pasjonują się zapewnieniem jakości w miejscu pracy i życiu.
Prowadzą organiczny ogród warzywny, którego produkty są bezpłatnie udostępniane pracownikom i ich rodzinom. Jest to naprawdę piękny idea, którą dumnie dzielą się ze sobą, dbając o zdrowie i dobre samopoczucie swoich pracowników.
Asortyment produktów to zadziwiająca gama wzorów, kształtów i projektów. Nie tylko parafinowe świece, również w 100% sojowe małe świeczki do podgrzewania, mydła glicerynowe i kosmetyki. Naprawdę wspaniałe miejsce. To sprawia, że trudno jest wybrać tylko kilka produktów.

The Art of Millifiore The beautifully intricate designs of Swazi Candles use the ancient technique known as "millifiore". Millefiore, or, "thousand flowers", first surfaced in Alexandria, but was perfected in the great glass making cities of Murano and Venice. Glass beads and other objects created there were of such beauty and finesse that they became much sought-after, valuable artifacts. On the Africa coast, these Venetian trade beads were used as a form of currency to barter for gold and ivory. So popular did they prove that the North and West Africans came to make their own variation. Thus was born the African trade bead, rare and sought after by collectors to this day. The art of millefiore continues in Swazi Candles. But instead of glass, the gifted candle makers of Swaziland use a special hard wax to create their colourful designs. The hard wax veneer forms the outer shell of the candle, which hardly melts when the candle is lit. Hence the rich, romantic glow of the illuminated exterior as the candle burns deeper into the container lighting up the casing. The shells can still be used even after the original inside wax is gone when refitted with a votive or tea candle. http://www.swazicandles.com

Millefiore, czyli "tysiąc kwiatów", po raz pierwszy pojawiła się w Aleksandrii, lecz została udoskonalona w tworzących wspaniałe szklane projekty miastach Murano i Wenecji. Szklane paciorki i inne przedmioty tam stworzone miały takie piękno i finezję, że stały się poszukiwanymi, cennymi artefaktami. Na wybrzeżu Afryki te weneckie koraliki handlowe były używane jako forma waluty do wymiany na złoto i kość słoniową. Tak popularne, iż udowodniono, że Afrykanie z Północy i Zachodu stworzyli własną odmianę. Tak narodził się koralik afrykańskiego handlu, rzadki i poszukiwany przez kolekcjonerów do dnia dzisiejszego. Sztuka millefiore trwa w Świecach Swazi. Ale zamiast szkła, utalentowani rzemieślnicy z Swaziland używają specjalnego twardego wosku do tworzenia swoich kolorowych wzorów. Twardy fornir woskowy tworzy zewnętrzną powłokę świecy, która prawie nie topi się, gdy świeca świeci. Stąd bogaty, romantyczny blask oświetlonej powierzchni zewnętrznej, gdy świeca pali się głębiej w pojemniku, oświetlając obudowę. After picking many unique pieces for all my relatives and choosing some really beautiful glycerine soaps for myself, I was on the way to the capital - Mbabane, hoping to see the Sibebe Rock- a huge granite mound and the largest exposed granite pluton in the world.
Po wybraniu wielu wyjątkowych sztuk dla wszystkich moich krewnych oraz naprawdę pięknych mydeł glicerynowych dla siebie samej, wyruszyłam na stolicę - Mbabane, mając nadzieję, że zobaczę skałę Sibebe - wielki granitowy kopiec i największy na świecie odkryty granitowy pluton.

And unfortunately the fog kept on creeping everywhere so I was not able to see anything further than 50 m ahead... So it was practically impossible to see the city, not to mention the famous Rock. To my disappointment we had to keep on going to reach the border in time. Somehow as I left Swaziland driving into Mpumalanga and further to Nelspruit, the weather got a bit more kind. Yet it was too late. Maybe next time I will be able to admire this wonderful country in it’s full glory.
I niestety cały czas wisiała nad nami mgła, więc nie byłam w stanie zobaczyć niczego dalej niż 50 m ... Wydało się praktycznie niemożliwe, zobaczyć miasto, nie mówiąc już o słynnej Skale. Niestety jednak, musieliśmy jechać dalej, aby dotrzeć do granicy na czas. Kiedy opuszczaliśmy Swaziland jadąc do regionu Mpumalanga i dalej do Nelspruit, pogoda stała się nieco bardziej uprzejma. Jednak było już za późno. Może następnym razem będę miała szanse podziwiać ten wspaniały kraj w pełnej krasie.
