Two Days in Madrid - Temple of AmonsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel7 years ago

I deliberatly choose to call this temple by the name of the god it was dedicated to, rather than the place it comes from, because what the hell? That was the house of Amon-Ra, goddamnit! But if you go to Madrid, ask for the Temple of Debod.

This temple was a gift from the Egyptian government to Spain in 1968, which had contributed to save and preserve a lot of Egyptian artefacts and wonders during the construction of hydroelectric dams on the Nile. Interestingly, Netherlands, Italy and USA all got a similar temple as well for their efforts.

It found a new home on the east of the Spanish capital, on a little quiet green hill with an orientation north-by-north-west making it a view to behold in the sunset!

Amon Ra doing house chores.

XD all those pesky tourists entering his house with their shoes on... that leaves dirt!

So they picked up a temple and moved it Spain?

Yep, like a giant mikado or Ikea furniture.
