EDINBURGH! Here i come!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel9 years ago

After much hesitations, doubts, and procrastination, I have eventually found my first travel of the year... and the winner is...

EDINBURGH!

Heard a lot about that city other the years, its great atmosphere, friendliness, energy and open to the whole wide world! I cross my fingers so that the French air controllers won't ruin it all by going on strike just like last year when I wanted to go to Newcastle! :D

Have any of you been there? Can anyone recommend me what to see, where to eat, sleep or party? I'm going to try to do Couchsurfing of course, but methinks i'm going to have to book an hostel, which is not bad either. I'm just going three nights, so that I'll take only one holiday day off from work.

Looking forward!

It's a cute little place. Don't forget to go to Arthur's seat, grab a bit of a snack and have it at the top. People go jogging too in Hollyrood. Oh..try their haggis right @meesterboom @son-of-satire

Oh aye, the haggis isn't for the faint of heart!

I love it! But others... Not so much!! :0D

i think it needs getting used to eating it :)

Arthur's seat, I would not miss it! Holyrood, ok, noted! I don't know what to feel about Haggis :D I'll probably stick to the snacks

Hi @herverisson. My wife and I have been to Edinburgh a couple of times and we love the place. We went a bit posh and stayed in a nice central hotel which doesn't look like the kind of thing you're after. Must see sights are of course the castle, the underground town, and the zoo. They are tourist traps but worth looking at. There are also loads of quirky little shops and so on to browse around. As for eating - hundreds of small, delightful eating places around - take your pick. Hope you enjoy it and have a great stay.

the underground town? never heard about THAT :-O Thx for letting me know! And yeah, i'm gonna stuff my face with a lot of food :)

Hi again @herverisson. Sorry for not replying to you sooner. Just thought I would send you this link which tells you a bit about the underground town in Edinburgh. Enjoy and don't eat too much!!

Never been there, but I want to go, and I hope I will in near future. Currently I am in Ireland, and there are cheap flights to Edinburgh all the time. Now it is just the matter of free time. Heard that culture is really unique, and the city itself has special vibe :)

Exactly! Can't wait to discover it, also for the food scene which is said to be incredible :) Isn't it all the time the same thing when we want to travel, or we have no money or we have no time... haha

Haha unfortunately! But this time I shouldn`t make excuse, because it is close to where I live, and it would be worth going there even for two nights! :) Definitely will in near future.

Well, this seems like the place to do some digging :p Nice

I bet a little bit more south, along the Hadrian's Wall, there are a lot of buried treasures and lost coins everywhere :)
