RE: Namibia – Diamonds will last forever, but not the German ghost town in the Namibian desert

in #travel5 years ago

Cool pictures especially those with the interior of the houses filled with sand ... Nature takes back its rights.
I once visited a ghost town in the US, Bodie, same story but with gold. But as you said, too many tourists to really believe to be in a ghost town.

Yeah! Kolmanskop is a real cool place. I liked the houses filled with sand as well. You really get the fealing that the sand has taken over litle by litle. the guided group tour and the museum was good for getting som facts and a history lesson. But to real get the feeling of is beeing compleatly abanoned I went alone, early in the morning ... The light was better for photography as well. I didn't know about Bodie - looks similar to Kolmanskop.

A photo of the town of Bodie... The buildings are well maintained as it's a National Park. It doesn't give the same feeling as Kolmanskop with sand everywhere.

Looks more well maintained than Kolmaskop, where only some of the houses have been restored. Most houses were left with the sand inside which is what makes it unique.
