Viagens | Travels - Belmonte #1
Intro
Fiquem atentos! :)
As I said before, I found the photos of a lifetime! :) So, I will share with you the trips I made through the years. Not as frequent now, but one day they will be part of the family again. What I love the most is to visit and revisit our Wonderful Portugal! So, most of my photos are from Portugal. One or another post will be from trips we took abroad! Stay tuned! :)
Belmonte
I remember being in Belmonte three times maybe… My memory is really tricky, so I have to trust my photos to help me remember… The photos I bring here are from two trips, one with my father, mother and sister, the other with family that came from the USA. We travelled during the summer! We the Africans try to run away from the cold as much as possible!! :D

This description says it all! I have translated it just for you!
Belmonte is a real museum at open sky.
It is the home of Pedro Álvares Cabral, Brazil discoverer, so it has a modern Discoveries Museum; it is the most impressive place of crypto Judaism from Iberian Peninsula – so it has a Judaic Museum and a synagogue; it is a farming land with great landscape, so it has a Zezere River EcoMuseum and an Olive Oil Museum; it also has important roman traces with the enigmatic Centum Cellas Tour or the roman village of Fornea.
You can check more here. Sorry, but it doesn’t have the English version.
We have visited the Zezere River EcoMuseum, the Olive Oil Museum and the Judaic Museum, but there is someone in every photo we have, so I won’t publish them here.
| I believe this area is near the castle... As I told you already, my memory is terrible! Here we are seeing the back of Santiago's Church.
These two photos belong to Santiago's Church that is also Cabrais Pantheon. From my research, I couldn't understand where exactly is Pedro Alvares Cabral buried!
Belmonte/Manteigas

This time we stayed in a family’s house in Manteigas, at the valley of Serra da Estrela. We visited Belmonte again, Serra da Estrela itself, and had lunch at the Bread Museum! The photos will be on an upcoming post. For now, some more photos of Belmonte's Castle, dated from the 13th Century!

A bit of History!
In 1466 D. Afonso the Fifth donates the Castle to Fernão de Cabral the First, making it the official residence of Cabral Family.
That was how everything started! Two years later, Pedro Alvares Cabral was born and, in March 1500, he parts in direction to India when, by chance, he finds Vera Cruz Land, Brazil! :)

Next time, I'll bring you Part Two of this travel. With the quick search I made to bring you more info, I saw that Manteigas has a lot more to see! So, it’s already on our revisiting places!
