The basics of flying a plane (2 - Requirements)
Hello All,
Thanks for tuning in again! Hope the Steemers are doing well! Today, I will be going over the requirements of a private pilot. This will be a little more detailed than my first post on becoming a pilot, which was posted about a week ago.
Now, the requirements for a sporting license are a little more lax, but it's not too much harder to get your private pilot's license, so it's probably best just to do that!
Practice Requirements:
- Total flight time (minimum, feeling comfortable is important): 40 hours
- Flight training (instructor in cockpit): 20 hours
- Solo flight time: 10 hours
- Cross country training (going to a different airport): 3 hours
- Solo cross country: 5 hours
- Night training: 3 hours
- Night landings: 10 times
- Instrument training: 3 hours
- Practical tests preparation (on ground, with instructor): 2 hours
I cannot stress how simple it is because your instructor will walk you through this!
Additional requirements include:
- Documents: 8710 form (with instructor endorsement) and a certification of preparation
- Medical Clearance:
(a) Vision: 20/40 or better, cannot be color blind
(b) Hearing, ear, nose, and throat: No debilitating conditions
(c) Blood pressure under 155/95
(d) Mental Status - OK, no psychosis
(e) No substance dependence - Practical Test (someone from the FAA flies with you and asks you to do all of the maneuvers + radio + preflight)
Found this on the firstflight website which will give you an idea of exactly what they are looking for. In my opinion and my friends at Embry-Riddle (where I wen to school) this is the scary part...
- Written test (Required Knowledge Test)
- If you are not from the US, then you need a passport and language requirements (everyone in the air needs to be able to speak English, probably a good idea haha)
- Logbook endorsements... like mine!
That's it! I really think everyone should get there license because it is a good real life skill to have, and it's fun! Hope you've enjoyed Steemers! Best wishes
Very cool stuff!
Thank you! I'm loving going back through all the material again. Going to start videoing lessons and sharing that as well!
Thanks once more my son loved your pre fight checks
No problem. I'll have another up tomorrow!
Looking forward to it
New post is up!
Thanks
This is great information. I know a couple of people who have gotten pilots' licenses and they really enjoy it. Maybe someday...
I'm going to start working on mine for the third time. It's thrillingly fun. I'd like to make a good tutorial for people, ground school and in the air. Thanks for the upvote!
It sounds like quite a time commitment - lots of hours required.
It's cool. Steemit is a lot of fun. I've never seen such a thing. The stuff you learn is outstanding! Sharing knowledge is a plus as well.
Thanks man!
No problem! They'll keep coming!
