Our Journey to Koh Kradan Island - Day 1 of 5 : Bangkok to Trang.
We had decide to do the journey the slow way by over night sleeper train as we wanted to see some of the country side on our journey admittedly it was going to be a long night and day on this slow train no bullet trains in Thailand but that was all in the fun of it. We all meant at Hualamphong Station this is the main railway station in Bangkok, Thailand. It is in the center of the city in the Pathum Wan District area.
A snack and a couple beers before we begin our long slow journey a local decided to join us for a beer and a chat telling us a bit about the rail system how slow it is but comfortable and exciting best way to see the country side he was saying is what we had in mind. Hualamphong Railway Station in the background.
Actually entering the Railway Station we noticed it was very huge and well organized even English speaking staff to assist you.
Their was a Food-court (around 40 - 60THB for Thai meals) as well as many restaurants such as KFC (Western Food), Anna Kitchen (Thai food a bit pricier than the Food court) or Coffee Shops such as Black Canyon Coffee. There were even bakery shops and a Dunkin Donuts shop love my Donuts.
After getting our self's sorted out with our tickets which cost us for..... ( 1st class sleeper $49 US ) you can get cheaper if you prefer non- air-conditioning cabin or only fan. We were then given a platform number and off we when to board out slow train to Trang. This journey was going to be a distance of about 845 km and would take between 16 to 18 hours, at this moment we were thinking hope there got enough cool beers on board.
All safely on board and finally ready to get this journey on the way we were now ready for few serious beers to smoothie the bumpy ride we were about to indulge on, as you could see this is no comparison to a bullet train you would board in Japan but this would turn out to be the fun side to this adventure.
Only a couple hours into the journey and the Beers are beginning to kick in....!!!
And for the non-drinkers it was bed time already....Goodnight and bumpy dreams...!!
Well after drinking all the beers on board, well almost and annoying the lovely patient staff it was time for us all to retrieve to our sleeping capsules, had been a long day and night and we still had about another 10 hours on this so modernized speed train but we were surviving it quite well...the beers were doing there job....hehe...!!
A couple photos i took from the inside of the train while we were slowing down at other stations not sure what this little house was used for maybe for the station master or the rest rooms but it looked pretty enough to be photographed.
And a old stream train been restored and on exhibition...very nice....!!
That's it for today of to bed now. Stay tuned for Day 2 as we continue our journey through the night towards Trang on our modernized bullet train.
