What Do You Want to Do? #7 - Use and Value Renewable Resources When PossiblesteemCreated with Sketch.

Always Favour Biological Solutions.

Why do we try to favour biological solutions on the farm? It's because they do the work for us which saves time, money and energy, they are usually found amongst resources we have at hand and they intermesh functions of already implemented designs.

A few examples: use goats (already implemented design) to cut grass = goats get fed, grass gets cut. Another would be to introduce productive plants that also attract beneficial predators for pest control. The whole idea is to find biological solutions that add to the value and production of your overall design.

How does this work in the crypto world?

One of the first and most poignant arguments that people bring up against crypto, and especially bitcoin, is that it requires an exorbitant amount of energy to mine now a days. The exact figures are difficult to calculate but some say the entire network uses about as much energy as a medium sized country. And with the effects of global warming already being felt around the world this sort of thing does not put the idea of mass adoption in a positive light.

However,

It is well documented that the majority of bitcoin mining (I'm being specific here as there are many other coins that are mined in different and less energy gobbling ways) that goes on now is almost only profitable in places that have and utilize renewable energy. Northern Europe, Russia and China all use their long winters and cold temperatures to their advantage when keeping mining rigs cool. Subsequently, surplus heat from rigs are used to keep homes and office buildings nice and cozy. Areas with cheaper hydroelectric or solar energy are much sought after by bitcoin mining companies as well - where the energy is cheap and plentiful is where the miners go. One proposition by the an Austrian hydro company is to instal bitcoin mining operation inside hydroelectric dams that operate solely on surplus energy which otherwise is expensive and difficult to store and would be wasted.

The opportunity for massive monetary gain offered to any company that comes up with more sustainable and cheap energy solutions for mining bitcoin and crypto very much seems to drive innovation for renewable energy solutions across the board.

Now I must admit, this Permaculture principle had me grasping onto threads here for a way to relate it to the crypto world and I will still very happily accept any feed back, additions or suggestions.

BUT  ... I think I found it,

It's hit me that one of the best examples of using and valuing a renewable resource amongst all of the things going on crypto wise is right here on Steemit.

This platform is the ultimate renewable resource.

By using the resources provided here on this site and interacting in the form of creating more content we are growing in a positive way that attracts more interest to the world of crypto. The more people interested, and with a resource like Steemit to guide them, they are more likely to interact and contribute value to the global market cap thus pushing everything we have invested towards providing higher returns.

That's all for now.

This has been my first post in months. I was initially turned off from Steemit in the beginning from all the sort of 'fake compliments' and people just liking my stuff so I would go and like theres. Plus, I put a lot of effort, care and thought into my previous posts with little to no response. But some of the friends I initially got interested in crypto with joined up a few months ago and have re-enthusied me to keep at it.

Please enjoy my previous posts and follow along as I continue to explore the world of crypto and investing through the proven sustainable design principles.

Thanks @hami. Steem does work with an incredibly renewable resource. Content. Sometimes I feel like content can be made just for the sake of making more content but then again for every crappy piece of content you also tend to find a good one. Glad to see you back on steemit. And looking forward to more insight on how permaculture meet block chain.

Welcome back @hami. glad you are down for a second go round.
