A Trip To The Oregon Zoo

It had been some time since we visited the Oregon Zoo here in Portland, in fact for me it has been at least 12 years. I decided it was time to take my kids, I mean shoot, I don’t think I have even been there with half of them.

The Elephant habitat was my favorite. I was surprised how much room these guys have to roam around, inside and out. I would estimate 3-4 football fields in size.

Born Nov. 2012, she is the youngest of the 4 elephants at the zoo. The others are Chandra born in 1993, Rose-Tu born in 1994, Samudra born in 2008, and the oldest is Sung-Surin with a birth year of 1982.

We took the zoo train ride, it was only about 6 minutes long, but only cost a few bucks.

I am not one to get over-excited about the zoo, I love animals, but I don’t care to see them “locked up”. However the zoo reminded me how well they are taken care of, and that many of them wouldn’t have survived in the wild.

We only spent a couple hours at the zoo, but other notable favorites of mine were the giraffes, rhinos, hippos, and bald eagle, but most of all it was about spending time with my wife and 4 kids, all together, which isn’t that common anymore now that they are growing up.
