A sad dance party that nobody went to

in #travel6 years ago

I gotta give them props for trying but I think it is simply the wrong time of year as occupancy is really low this time of year on the island of Koh Phayam but we were invited to a party at Boat Bar on the beach for a deep house and trance DJ something-or-other last night.

the sad empty dance floor

the Bar itself is actually really cool as it is meant to look like an upside down boat or something, i dunno. If anyone were to turn up I think that the capacity of this venue is actually very high because the structure is relatively enormous.

didn't have to wait long for a drink

I am not really a fan of any sort of DJ music... it just isn't my thing and I it can prove very difficult for me to get excited about really anything that they decide to play. I couldn't help but feel a little bit bad for the 2 DJ's that were there though.

the crowd of 4 people went wild!

I didn't stay very long and was so bored that at one point we started to do silly things like get a running start across the room and dive into pillow chairs.

They get an A for effort but I think this might simply be the wrong place / wrong time for this sort of event. I don't know if DJ's are as concerned about a lack of crowd that a live band might be and even though I don't really care for electronic music, i do still have sympathy and felt pretty bad for the performers.

Sort:

They must have lost a bundle and hopefully they will learn from this event. I have been to a few places that were lacking the numbers and there is nothing worse. If there are crowds and the music is half decent you normally have a good time. Only bonus is not waiting for drinks and I suppose you could have requested any music you fancied at some point.

I flag trash. You have been upvoted by trash. I have negated the vote from said trash.

it is very sad to read it...

That is sad indeed, no matter what kind of musician we are talking about. Playing to an empty concert hall or dance floor is not fun at all.
On the other hand the should have known better and usually good DJs are expensive, not to mention very busy. Many of them have their whole year booked ahead already.
I guess this wasn't a very famous event but even so, I guess no one wants to be in their shoes.

That's the worst possible scenario for a DJ: A gig with nobody in attendance. DJs thrive off of the energy of the audience. With no audience, there's no energy, no fun, and no hype.

I feel for them...

This is weirld to hear. Crowd should have been many than that number. Why is the turn up low

It is regrettable that the intention to organise a party and have a good time was a failure. It is sad that all the effort and investment has been lost, but always when planning events must take into account as many details as the season and the audience to whom it is directed. Greetings, @gooddream.

Wow, that is pretty sad. There really isn't an easy way to fix it though. If you try to get out and dance you end up just being the sad lonely person on the dance floor all alone... They probably still got paid, so they might not care that much!
