Google Fi is a global SIM card with LTE speed that supports over 135+ countries but is only available for US citizens.. Until now ;)

We found a way to use Google Fi even if you are not living in the US. It's very easy and extremely helpful if you travel a lot around the globe and need internet for working or other things.

With Google Fi you will have only one SIM card and phone number and you can access internet with LTE Speed at 135+ countries. Please visit this website if you want to see which countries are supported: https://fi.google.com/about/rates/

How much does it cost?

You pay $20 per month + $10/GB data!

You only pay what you really used and if you don’t use it you can set the Fi SIM card to pending. So you never pay for data you don't use.

Quote Google Fi website:
"We credit the money for data you don’t use to your next statement. If you use more than planned, you pay the same $10/GB with no overage fees"

The benefits of traveling with FI

All 135+ countries in Project Fi’s network include the same great benefits. Such as same rate pricing, high speed data at the same $10/GB, unlimited SMS, and calls for 20¢ / minute.

You want to use this service but you'r not living in the US? No problem! You can get Fi as well :)

How to register, activate and use Google Fi as a non-US citizen

You only can use Google Fi with Android phones! But there is also a way to use it for iPhones..

  1. Use this VPN to get a US IP address!

  2. Use for your Google account a address of a coworking space or other address inside the US.

  3. Use Borderlinx to get a address for the shipping of the Google card + phone for activation.

  4. Register for Google Fi and use your Borderlinx address from step 3 for shipping. After that you can easily forward the card via Borderlinx to where ever you are.

  5. Buy a supported phone (Pixel, the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X or Nexus 6 - North American version) on Amazon.com or other onlineshop and use also your Borderlinx address and forwarding.

  6. Activate your Google Fi card with your supported Android phone from step 5. If you are clever you can send the phone back (use money back guarantee) or you can use it as your new Fi device. If you want to use your iPhone please follow next step.

  7. Use Google Fi SIM card with your iPhone:
-> go to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Mobile Data Network > set APN to: h2g2

Ready! :)

Have fun to use Google Fi as a non US resident and have a very good LTE connection in over 135 countries :)

Please resteem if it was helpful for you.

Stay steemed!
Sergio

$10 GB of data sounds very expensive, it would be cheaper to get a sim in the country you are visiting in many cases and the per GB data cost will be way less.
Remember you are paying $20 EVERY month for access to Google Fi even if not using it. Carefully compare costs. Many countries even have special 3 month tourist sim cards. Great information though, thank you for sharing with us.

Yes you are true! But it's a new option you can use if you dependent on good internet all the time. We also buy our sim cards in most countries but this can be very stressful and also expensive if you travel to 10 - 20 countries per year :P

It could be expensive, but if you operate on wifi the majority of the time you don't burn through data too fast and you get to have the availability of your own number the whole time you're traveling. I just spent a month in Istanbul, Turkey. My friend from the US was using his Nexus 5x and never had any complaints about using it or the quality of service.

reminds me of one movie where they all got free sim ;-)

which movie? :)

Kingsman right @tuvokhl?

Kingsman glaube ich.

Ah den kenne ich noch gar nicht :)

Cool article. Thanks for the :)
