Leros

We are currently on the island of Leros which belongs to the Dodecanese region in Greece. This is not the first time we are here because we land again and again on this beautiful little island. At the moment, we are still waiting for our boat to be launch in the water as we are in the boatyard.

But we are not just wasting our time! We are fixing things and getting ready for the season. We also try to take some time to learn about the culture and history of the island. The main attraction in Leros is the big castle on the summit of a mountain, from there you can see the whole island and even the surrounding islands with clear weather, mostly Kalymnos.

The people are very nice and friendly, but most of all, they are very helpful.
Right on the shore of Lakki, what can be considered as the main town, you can find a lot of shops, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, etc… But you definitely can’t miss and need to go at the Morano Cafe!

It is for sure the rally point for many people, weither they are tourists or locals. The owner, Popie, works almost all the time, days, nights and 7/7. She is super friendly and always gives you good tips on where to find what you need and what is better to do… or not.

One street behind Morano Cafe there is a very good restaurant named The
Lampara. The owners, a young sweet couple, work together and are super nice. We are invited to there wedding by the way! I need to recommend you the fish soup, it is the best I have eaten so far. Meat and vegetarian dishes are also available, they only cook fresh product and most of the veggies come from there organic garden behind the restaurant.

In my opinion, you could rename Leros as the island of the sailors, simply because most of the visitor comes from boating. There is 3 different boatyards on the island although his small size and a very protected bay, 2 things that are important for sailors. You can imagine how this marine traffic is necessary for the local economy!

Ship of any size comes to have some repair done as the island is known for her good workmanship and parts availability. If you do not find what you need, you can order easily from Athens or, take a walk to the metal/machine shop and get a custom work for your needs.

The island is a must because of all the nice people, the great restaurants, the boat life if you are a sailor, the history and more. Leros feels like you go back in time, nothing have changed and nobody wants it to change. There you really can relax and enjoy your time.

Leros

Zurzeit befinden wir uns auf der Insel Leros die zu den Dodekanes Inseln gehört in Griechenland. Das ist nicht das erste mal das es uns hierher verschlägt denn wir landen immer wieder auf dieser schönen kleinen Insel.
Momentan warten wir noch das unser boot in Wasser gelassen wird da wir in der Werft sind.
Aber wir verschwenden unsere zeit nicht nur mit warten wir reparieren einige Dinge und bereiten uns auf die Session vor. Und auch so einige kulturelle Dinge haben wir hier erlebt.
Die Haupt Attraktion in Leros ist die grosse burg auf dem Gipfel von dort aus kannst du die ganze Insel sehen sogar den Anfang der nächsten Insel
Kalymnos.

Die Menschen sind hier sehr nett und freundlich und auch alle sehr hilfsbereit.
Direkt am Ufer von Lakki befindet sich das Kaffee Moreno Caffee.
Die Inhaberin arbeitet selbst die meiste zeit, ist super freundlich und gibt dir immer einen guten Tipp wo du dir was kaufen solltest und was besser ist.
Eine Straße hinter dem Kaffee gibt es ein sehr gutes Restaurant namens
Lampara.
Der Inhaber Teo ist sehr nett und freundlich genauso wie seine Freundin die auch dort arbeitet und an dieser stelle muss ich euch die Fischsuppe dort empfehlen das is die beste die ich bis jetzt gegessen habe.
Wer nicht gern fisch isst hat die Chance auf der Speise karte sich etwas anderes auszusuchen. Fleisch und vegetarische Gerichte die auch von der Saison abhängig sind und immer frisch zubereitet werden.

Meiner Meinung nach könnte man die Insel der Schiffe nennen den obwohl die Insel klein ist besuchen viele Segler die Insel. Da sie drei Werften hat und alle drei sehr gute arbeit leisten.
Viele Schiffe besuchen diese Insel auch wenn sie was reparieren wollen dafür ist die Insel sehr bekannt da es hier sehr viele Läden mit Schiffs untersielien gibt und es sehr ruhig und angenehm rüber kommt. Und wenn du mal nicht das passende Stück findest was du brauchst kannst du auch zum Metallschmied gehen und er schweißt dir innerhalb 1-2 Tage das was du brauchst.
Die Insel ist ein MUSS durch die ganze Harmonie und den schönen Plätzen ist die Insel etwas sehr besonderes.
