THE WESTERN WALL AND THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE

in #travel7 years ago

In my previous stories I have written about my trip to Masada and some other Christian quarters in Jerusalem. Today I will be writing about my journey to Western Wall and the Church of Holy Sepulchre.

The Western Wall is one of the most holy and significant places of Jews in Jerusalem .It symbolizes the return of the People of Israel to the Land of Promise. It is also known as the Wailing Wall. The Wall is remnant of the Second Temple, which was built initially in the sixth century BC. Later it was enlarged by Herod The Great.
Shown below are some of the photos taken during my visit to Wailing Wall:

Next place I visited was the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

This is the place where Jesus Christ' body is believed to be interred after his crucifixion. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is in the heart of the Christian quarter of the walled city of Jerusalem. It covers the site of Jesus' crucifixion, burial and resurrection.

Six denominations ,mainly Greek orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox,Armenian apostolic,Syrian Orthodox, Roman Catholic share the custodianship of this cavernous church.Because of some disputes between various denominations, the keys to this Church have been held by a Muslim family since the 12th Century.

This is one of the most important places I have visited
