The best 10 Castles in Turkey

Historical wars have been experienced in Central Asia too many times. So the historical structures in this part of the world are very strong. When we mention about historical structures, we can think Castles. Turkey is located in Asia, as in Europe. Turkey has got so much historical castles. When we look the history of Turkey, we see; some of them are bigger and stronger than others. I will share with you 10 best Turkey Castles in this article.

1- Alanya Castle

The castle, built on the Alanya peninsula, was built by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat. It is located 250 meters above the sea from the sea, and it has a wall of 6.5 meters high. It is located in the Mediterranean.

2- Bodrum Castle

This castle It was built by Jean Knights. Bodrum Castle is famous for its towers and square structure. There is a Turkish bath built during Ottoman times. Today, it is the frequent destination of tourists and it serves as 'Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum'. The museum received the 'Special Praise' prize in the Museum of the Year in Europe in 1995.

3- Rumeli Fortress

Before the conquest of Istanbul, Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror built this place to prevent attacks from north of the Bosphorus. The castle was built only in 3 months. This is the most important feature of kalen. It's a good time to visit here in the spring.

4-Rize Zilkale

If you come to Rize, you should see this castle in the Storm Valley. You can get tired of going to the hill built during the period of Trabzon Empire. But you will forget all your fatigue at the top of the castle. There is a wonderful view of this castle.

5- Van Castle

Van Castle is one of the oldest Turkey made 2841 years ago remain. It has a great view because it is on the edge of Van Lake. It is 1800 m long, 120 m wide and 80 m high. When Russian archaeologists worked here in 1915-1916, they found inscriptions belonging to the Urartu King Sarduri.

6- Mersin Maiden's Castle

According to the legend; The castle was built by a father who wanted to protect his daughter from snakes. The castle is located in Mersin and the view of the castle is wonderful at sunset.

7- Bozcaada Castle

When you approach Bozcaada by ferry, Bozcaada Castle will attract attention with all its beauty. It is not known when the castle was built. But Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror rebuilt the castle after the remaining remains. The building is well preserved. Amphoras and old gravestones are exhibited in the inner castle section.

8- Anatolian Fortress

In the past this area is the walking area of the Byzantine Princesses. It was built to control the passage of ships of Genoese and Byzantines. Anadolu Hisarı was built by Yıldırım Beyazıt. It is one of the two pearls of the Istanbul Bosphorus. The other is the Rumeli castle.

9- Mardin Castle

The castle on the top of Mardin is part of the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Persian, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, Abbasi, Seljuk, Karakoyunlu, Akkoyunlu and Ottoman civilizations. Another name of this place is 'Eagle's nest'.

10- Diyarbakir Castle/Walls

The castle was taken to the UNESCO World Heritage List. It's about 9,000 years old. It is the longest and wide defensive wall of the world after the Great Wall of China.
