Look Where I Live !

When you detached your eyes of your screen, and you go out from home, what do you see ?

On Steemit we are all geographically disperse everywhere on the planet, so I suggest you discover what I see every day.

You also using @wheredoyoulive tag, and share your knowledge and learn about your city, your county, your region or your state.

So I live in a department called Puy-de-Dôme, in the center of France. Here the diversity and beauty are both simple and strong by its landscape, offers exceptional quality to the environment, to nature reserves, water, rivers, valleys and volcanoes of the "Chain of volcanic hills" or "Chaîne des Puys", with the most famous of them, the "Puy De Dome", which gave its name to the department.

When you reach the summit (1464 m) of this volcanic cone, via the path of the Mule, you dominate all the surrounding landscape. The view is stunning when you discover this puy* chain (all extinct volcanic cones) that extends over 40 km.
*puy is like "a well"

No matter where you are, you are surrounded by mountains and natural parks

  • Chain of volcanic hills or chaîne des Puys :

"Chaîne des Puys" is all volcanic mountains, the largest in Europe : you can see more than 80 different types of volcanoes. Contrary to appearances, volcanic activity has not completely ceased, it is simply interrupted ... last eruption 7000 years ago

  • Les Monts Dore :

Sancy is the highest and most famous of these mountains, it's the culmination of the department and all the Massif Central

  • Volcanoes Park and Livradois-Forez Park :

These are the two biggest natural parks in France

With this wealth still wild and unspoiled, it's common to swim in a volcano, to hit the ski slopes but also by bike, take an adrenaline rush with a jump in hang gliding or ballooning.

The Puy-de-Dôme is a department where each activity has a true sense !

At the foot of volcanoes

Agriculture has always been part of the cultural heritage, that place where the plains, areas of agricultural crops has expanded and wheat fields today alongside those of tobacco, corn or sugar beet.

Our culinary specialties come from mountain areas still produce cheese (AOP origin)

  • Bleu d'Auvergne
  • Cantal
  • Fourme d'Ambert
  • Salers
  • Saint-Nectaire

And breeding cows / beef, sheep / lamb, chicken and pigs also can produce a variety of meat and what we call in France "charcuterie"

If you didn't know it or if you supposedly don't like it : You miss some things very good!

So far I've introduced the natural side of this place, but nobody lives here as in the series "Little House on the Prairie".
Puy-de-Dome, in 2016, has about 700,000 inhabitants for 7970 km². Around Clermont-Ferrand (main town), there is a multitude of cities (20,000 inhabitants and more), small towns (10,000 inhabitants and -) and villages (- 1.000 inhabitants), where it is pleasant to live.

Yes we have electricity and the internet is available on 99% of the land: I laugh but some people think that we still live as "farmers"!

At the industry level, the main one is represented by MICHELIN

The world leader in the manufacture of the tire, whose head office in Clermont-Ferrand

But you must know the VOLVIC Water !?

The Volvic water comes from natural source located in town of the same name.
The itinerary of the natural mineral water begins with rain water and melting snow falling on the catchment area of volcanic * Volvic. (* This is a natural basin which collects the rainwater and runoff)

Then some of that water seeps into the basement. Protected by the volcanic strata, it's naturally protected from pollution.
The Volvic water continues its path to cross many layers of lava and scoria over 100 meters deep. It's this long path through this vast natural filter, which will last about 5 years, which gives this mineral water with unique properties.
It's only after arrival in the bottle that this natural mineral water sees the light for the first time.

My Region, A Jewel Unrecognized !

According to the famous tourist guide Lonely Planet, my region is the sixth region must discover in 2016, just before the island of Hawaii. This region was chosen by a panel of experts based on several criteria : News, Initiatives, Tourist, Preserved Environment and Quality of Life

"A new wind blows on the center of France"
