Aqaba is the only coastal city in the country of Jordan. It draws people from all over the country who enjoy water sports, including windsurfing, The area surrounding Aqaba is a major world destination for scuba divers. There are several important dive sites just south of the city, with Yamanieh Coral Reef being a favorite.
For those interested in archaeology, there are several major digs in and around Aqaba. Two major archaeological digs in the area are Tall Hujayrat Al-Ghuzlan and Tall al-Magass. Both verify that Aqaba has been a thriving settlement since 4000 BC. There has also been a thriving production of cooper in the area. The major crops of that time period were grapes and wheat. They also had a developed water system for irrigation that was quite extensive.
Accommodations in Aqaba are impressive with many five star hotels. There are endless restaurants in the city with an excellent choice of cuisine.
For those that are adventures and pilgrims, the connection with the Red Sea is a major draw. Many of the major hotels sit right on the beach to the Red Sea and Petra is a short day trip.
The Red Sea Astrarium is the only Star Trek Themed park in the world. The park covers 184 acres with many advanced attractions using some amazing technology. There are five star accommodations, theater productions, and many night time events. The themed park has four hotels and provides over five hundred local jobs.
The Wadi Rum desert is colorful, intriguing, and full of adventure. The Bedouins of the desert still live in goat skin tents that keep them cool during the hot days.
Jordan is an amazing country to visit. The local people are extremely friendly. If you want to spend the time to get to know them, they desire to share their country with you. The stories you will hear from the Bedouins of are desert are amazing. A visit to Jordan is a step back in time to see some of the most exciting ancient ruins on earth. It is also a step into the future, as they are modern and very advanced in their use of technology. They have an outstanding train system that connects the country with other countries and all the major cities in Jordan are connected. If you are looking for a fun and educational adventure, Jordan is waiting.
