Cracow - the capital of Poland until 1795 and the coronation town and the necropolis of the kings of Poland, the capital of the Cracow diocese since 1000, and since 1925 the archdiocese and the metropolis, since the independence of Poland In 1918, the city was also a metropolitan center of the Cracow metropolitan area and the Cracow Metropolitan Area. In historical records Cracow is considered the main historical city of Malopolska. It lies on the area of the Cracow Gate, the Nidzia River Valley and the West Bohemian Foothills.

Cracow is located in southern Poland, in the central-western part of the voivodeship on the Vistula River.

The city has a meridian 18 km and a parallel of 31 km.

Cracow is one of the oldest Polish cities, with many valuable architectural objects. There are many cultural institutions and institutions that collect priceless monuments. In the past, the city belonged to the Hanseatic League, which assembled the most important shopping centers in Europe.

Until 1795, Cracow was the capital of Poland, and until 1611 the seat of the rulers of the Polish state. In the years 1596-1795, ie the third partition of Poland, as the capital of the Commonwealth, capital functions shared with Warsaw, which became the city of the king. It was the royal city of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. The city had the right to participate actively in the act of choosing the king.

In 2000 Cracow became the first city from Poland and Central and Eastern Europe (simultaneously with Prague) became the European Capital of Culture. In the second decade of the XXI century it was also awarded the title of the European Sports City of 2014 and the UNESCO City of Literature. In 2006 Cracow was listed among the 5 most popular European cities, and in 2007 it was named "the most fashionable city in the world" according to the American online agency Orbitz, which set the trend in world tourism.

Old Town - the oldest area of Cracow, surrounded by Planty. Its center is the Market Square. Until 1954 the Old Town within the Plantation (without the Wawel Hill) was a separate cadastral district. It was a neighborhood and downtown.

The main monuments of Cracow Old Town are located on the main square: the Mariacki church, the Cloth Hall and the town hall tower, as well as the remains of the walls - the Florian Gate and the Barbican.

Wawel Hill in Cracow, in Cracow, in the Old Town Quarter and on the left bank of the Vistula River, the historic district of Cracow.

Wawel is a tectonic framework that was created in the Miocene and is composed of 161-155 million years of Upper Jurassic limestone of the Oxford. The hill rises to a height of about 228 m n.p.m.

On the hill there are two historic buildings :

  - Wawel Royal Castle
- Basilica of the Archangel. Stanislaus and St. Wenceslas

Wawel's fortifications are also part of this complex. The relics of other buildings dating from different epochs have been found.
